Sounds like you are having a problem with the image format or size, maybe. Make sure you are using a size that has multiples of 16 (For example: 16 x 16, 16 x128, 256 x256…etc.).

Also, instead of using a JPEG (Which should be OK, but may be either corrupt or some flavor of JPEG that pIllusion doesn’t like), use a TIFF, TGA or PNG.

I’d strongly suggest running through the manual. Not becasue we don;t want to help you, but because all the answers are presented there really clearly. Also, for something as simple as that you may have to wait a while for an answer in case one of us wasn’t available to respond.

Lower the velocity Value a lot.
Raise the Life value a lot
Bring up the life variation value for each particle type a bit.

In the emitter properties Make sure that both particle types are set to show a random frame, but that they are also set to off for the image sequence slider (Slider next to the particle shape image that Looks like: Off_______Fast).

In the colors tab I would copy the gradient for the particle type called “Bright” and paste it to the particle type called “Dim”
Also set the gradients to repeat a bit using the repeat slider.

Just to be clear… When you say add a particle to the library, do you mean add a particle type to the emitter, add a particle shape to the emitter, or add the emitter to the library. You can’t add a particle to the library – only emitters can be added to a library.

For clarity: a library contains emitters. Emitters emit particles.

We can’t help you if we aren’t clear on your problem, so let us know what you mean exactly.

Also please list the exact steps you are taking that lead up to the crash.

This is (I believe) standard in AE 7. It should be using the exact same name as the video file. At least in mine that’s how things work. It was not the case in AE 6.5 and previous, and I don’t believe there is any way to change it.

What version are you using?
