  • Comp names the same as clip names

    Hi,

I’m trying to do some batch processing where I need the rendered files to have the same names as the original clips. Is there a way to make AE keep the name of the single clip that is inside it? In other words, If I drag a clip down to the make new comp button, can I get the new comp to have the same name as the clip? I need to do this for a bunch of clips, so manual renaming isn’t practical.

    Thanks
    Chris

This is (I believe) standard in AE 7. It should be using the exact same name as the video file. At least in mine that’s how things work. It was not the case in AE 6.5 and previous, and I don’t believe there is any way to change it.

    What version are you using?

    Aharon,

I’m using version 7. What happens is that if I have clips from a trimmed Final Cut timeline that are named “shot 1”, “shot 1-1” “shot 2”, etc. and I drag “shot 1” to create a new comp it creates a comp named “shot 3”, because it is the next available number, in order to give the comp a discreet name. So with a bunch of clips that might be numbered from 1 to 120, the comp created from clip 1 will have the same name but end with the number 121, which of course, will render a file that Final Cut will not relink to properly because it doesn’t have the exact same name. How about a script or something?

    Thanks
    Chris

    P.S. I enjoy your podcast tutorials !

Thanks. It might make some sense then to name the files something else than.

I’ll leave the scripts to the people that know what they’re doing…

    Best,

    Aharon
