Keylight comes with After Effects 7, and I’m pretty sure it’s in 8 as well. Might be wrong.
However, Keylight changed (very) slightly from AE 6.5 to 7, and I assume there will be some minor changes, even if they are only under the hood, between 7 and 8.

You can link it to the position of a Null object. And you can Animate the Null object to go to some text, hang a round there for a little bit, and then move on to the next piece of text. That will cause the camera to focus on the different text areas.
If you are new to Null objects, I cover them in this weeks AE podcast, and I even shwo you how to link the Point of Interest to a Null object for more control over your 3D camera.

I want to warn you that even if you Bake everything, there are still some discrepencies between Maya units and AE units. Someone wrote a plugin called MoCon that fixes this. Costs $20.
Never tried it, by the way, so do your research.

OK – the Octopus wasn’t the best example. Here’s a good example movie that will show the difference:

Size scales the size of the particles individually. particles stay in the same position, but get bigger or smaller.
Zoom is used to scale up (or down) the entire effect. Particles are not just scaled, but moved outward (or inward) realitive to eachother and thier emitter. It’s particularly useful for point emitters, but also works for the other emitter types, but not necessarily the way you might expect.
You can use this property to animate an effect growing closer to the camera by zooming up over time. Try it with one of the emiters from the Creature library (like Octopus). You’ll see what I mean.

great seeing you too. Getting time to talk is really hard at these things, but I was glad to hang out with you. Oh – and thanks for being my “PR Rep” for the DVD. Much appreciated.
