That depends on what you’re trying to do. My understanding was that you just wanted a line.
If you want segements (a broken line) that can cycle over and over, you migth want to look into the vegas effect, BTW.
But to animate a stroke, play with and animate the “start” and “end” properties.

The Dell 24 inch monitor changed my life. It rocks. It didn;t even require any color adjustment at all. Shocking!
I also have a samsung Synchmaster 204BW (20″) monitor which is not quite as good, but cheeper and good enough.
But if you can afford a Dell, go for it.

I just bought the DVD and am saving it for a special occasion. I remember thinking that the computer sounded like Pee wee herman. I just looked on the DVD case, and it WAS him!
I wonder if you could Use Zaxwerks Pro with a reflection map to do the same thing. It won’t be a true refelction, but I don;t think they used one in the original movie either (Though, as I said, I have not unwrapped it yet, and it’s been a loooooong time).

if it;s just a whte line (i.e., you can;t see the actual filmstrip – just the side) why not make a stroke. Creat a solid, and then make a path using the pen tools that follows the shape of your film strip.
Then apply the stroke effect (Setting it to stroke your mask, and to composite the stroke on transparent).
Effect > Generate > Stroke…

You’ve got to walk before you can fly. If you’ve only been using AE for a week, you’re asking a lot – saw your other post about blood too.
When you get down to it, AE has no native way of maiking either realistic fire or blood. The best solution I;ve seen for blood yet was from a product at VideoCopilot.net called “action movie essentials” which included blood spurts – these are filmed elements, not CGI. the package which includes a lot pf cool stuff costs about $50.
Also for fire, Artbeats has a DVD full of fire elements. Again, filmed elements always look better than fake. But if that’s not an option, you can go the faster rout that has semi- to realistic fire effects, such as the stand alone application particleIllusion (www.wondertouch.com) or trapcode particular (AE plug-in). My money is on particleIllusion, though Trapcode particular can produce really nice stuff too. There are differences between the programs, and different places you would use them.
But again, if you’ve only been using AE for a week, consider going through the free tutorials here and get comfortable with the program before you get crazy on the effects.

wait. Do you have Continuous rasterization turned on (same button as the collapse transformation button). You need that turned on for a vecotr layer for it to keep it’s clarity.
Make sure that option is turned on for that layer (little sun button on the layer)

Try turning off openGL in AE.
It’s the button under the comp window that looks like a lightning bolt through a computer screen. Set it to off.
If this fixes the problem, you are having an issue with your video card not being fully compatible with AE.

I mean to animate a web. If you make an image of the final web, you can have it scale out of the hand (anchor point at end connected to hand), but in the process use the puppet tool to deform it. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could use a wiggle expression on the puppet points position values to get a natural feel to the motion.

sorry i could not be more help. Other than going back to whomever provided the material and asking them to do it right, there’s not much you can do at the post production end, except hard work….
But wait! Hmmm….
Unless, you want to convert it to an image sequence (TIFF, TGA, PNG, JPEG), and then just delete duplicate frames. Not as much work as it sounds
Import the footage into AE – but not as a sequence –
then make a comp, drop all images in and then make them each one fram long (trim them tot he first frame).
then select them all and choose Animation > Keyframe Assistant > sequence layers – no overlap
Then move through it frame by frame deleting all duplicate frames.
Then (again) select them all and choose Animation > Keyframe Assistant > sequence layers – no overlap
That will do it. that should be easier, I think… Does that make sense?
