    Hello all,
This is my first post so I hope I am goona get it all right in terms of netiquette. Here goes..

I am looking to recreate the effect that spiderman films do when he shoots webbing out.

I want to be able to add the effect and even shoot a rendered spiders web (ala Peter parker & mary Jane in spiderman3 when the metoer crashes next to them)

Thanks for any help you may bring..

    salutations from codemonkey

It depends on how realistic you want it to look.

You’ll need a 3D app to do a realistic effect. They used Houdini ($$$):

After Effects is not designed to do realistic visual effects like that.

Now if you want something a little more abstract, you could try Trapcode’s Particular, but it won’t look like a 3D string of webbing – it’ll look more like a string of light.
If you need the effect to work with a moving camera, you’ll need something like Syntheyes to match AE’s camera to the real camera.

As for a static web, you could grab a photo of one and composite it into the shot.

I’ve actually been thinking about the new puppet tool (AE CS3)and spidey web effects. I wonder if you could get something nice out of that…

You mean to show the mesh, Aharon?

I mean to animate a web. If you make an image of the final web, you can have it scale out of the hand (anchor point at end connected to hand), but in the process use the puppet tool to deform it. I wouldn’t be surprised if you could use a wiggle expression on the puppet points position values to get a natural feel to the motion.
