  • In AE, Try selecting your layer and then choosing Layer > Time Stretch. Stretch it out as long as you want it to be using the dialog options.

The audio ends up much lower in pitch, by the way.

If you want audio that’s lowered in pitch, just extended, you could try using an Audio program that has the ability to stretch out the length of audio while still keeping it’s pitch. After too much stretching though it get’s distorted. I use Audition for this.

pretty much anyone that knows isn’t going to say anything because they are under NDA. The best you’ll get are rumors, which are probably not that reliable.

You may hear more after next week (SIGGRAPH 2005). I imaging that Adobe will have some new stuff to show, but you never know how they are developing things.

You could always try a magic 8-ball for now…

I think there was an effect called Vector paint in AE 6.0. It was hard to use, but look for it.

You could also create a mask/path in the shape of the line you need, and then apply the Render > Stroke effect to the mask/path. You can animate the start and end point of the stroke so that it draws on.

July 26, 2005 at 10:57 pm in reply to: Smoke into…anything

Last year at Siggraph I was working at the particleIllusion booth, and Elvis Deane (my co-moderator at the pIllusion cow forum) did this inbelievable animation of himself, greenscreened, disolving into smoke. You may want to hop by our forum here at the cow and ask him about how exactly he did it.

I hate to sound like a broken record in this forum, but…

Just so you know, particleIllusion is a stand-alone app that works really well with after Effects. It comes with over 1300 FX out of the box (many of them smoke, fire, sparkles…plus a lot others), and it beats any particle generator for AE in speed and ease of use. Part of that is becasue it doesn;t have the overhead many plugins have to deal with in AE. However, it isn’t directly in AE, which means you have to do a little extra work, like bringing in video BG’s from AE into pIllusion, and then rendering out the particle footage and importing files into AE. Also, it is only a 2D prgram unlike particular which is 3D.

FYI – pIllusion for OSX was released today, in case you are on a mac.

Sorry to all for being such a pIllusion enthusiast – I just love it and use it whenever possible, and I feel the need to share the love…

Do you mean physical heat and pressure?

A blast of warm air, along with some deep tones on a sub-woofer should do it.

FOr heat, you can create a solid layer and use the fractal noise effect, animated. Precomp it (this won’t work otherwise) and using that precomped fractal animation as a displacement map for you BG footage. This creates a heat shimmer effect.

Not sure what to tell you about a shock wave. It depends on what you mean by that. Usually it;s a sphere that eminates out from the center of the explosion, and not that rediculous death star explosion ring that everyone is using since Lucas re-released Star Wars…

Personally, for all of my explosion needs i use the program called particleIllusion. It pays for itself the first time you use it professionally and has a really low learning curve. We have a forum here for pIllusion, where you can find out more:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_view_posts.cgi?forumid=23

    The company website is https://www.wondertouch.com/

It is supposed to be out as a plugin for AE soon, BTW.

July 25, 2005 at 5:26 pm in reply to: How is this done

For the glint, you can use a duplicate, slightly-Blurry layer of the words as a matte for a layer above the words. It should be a blurry stripe or circle, and you just animate it over the words. It will only show up on the words, and nowhere else (not on the BG becasue it is matted out). use the add transfer mode to make the letters brighter from the layer moving around.

After you have done all of this, Instead of shine (which is a the best of it’s kind) you could also use CC Lightburst to create the same shine effect, but it’s slow….

July 25, 2005 at 5:18 pm in reply to: stabilisation keyframes created

You should have 2 sets of keyframes, once you;ve applied the stabilization.

    1) A proeprty called Tracker with the trackers listed, and all of their keyframes.

    2) Anchor Point, rotation, scale keyframes (You may have 1, 2 or all 3 of these depending on how you tracked it.)

Once you’ve applied the stabilization (by hitting Apply), you can delete your tracker and all of it’s keyframes.

Unless you render out your new stabilized version of the video, you CAN NOT delete the Anchor Point, rotation, or scale keyframes. They area ll that is holding your layer in place. Otherwise it returns to it’s original state.

July 25, 2005 at 5:14 pm in reply to: pixie dust without trapcode plugins

you could also just use the effect called “CC ParticleSystems 2” which has a “pixie dust” particle shape already in there.

You need to have a non-educational Pro version of AE- the Cycore effects are a seperate insstaller in the CD.
