I think there is a tutorial here at the cow on a bullet effect – though I can’t seem to find it.
Also, Andrew kramer is working on one as well. That one looks to be a lot more complex, but very realistic.
Of course you should watch the 3 part tutorial here on Displacement maps to get you up to speed.
You can also consider using fractal noise as a displacement map, and masking it off so it only effects a small area. Or if you really want to use particles, you can use the effect called CC Particle Systems 2 or CC Particle world (Both come with AE). They run pretty quickly, where particular might not.

Unfortunately Nucleo Pro, while a Magic Pill of sorts, is (in my understanding) not enough of a magic pill I may not be right about this, but after a to get around the 32-Bit architecture. I don’t think you’ll get something out of more ram past 3GB, but if you did, it would be very diminished returns.
Regarding the whole “gods” comment, there was no insult taken. I just prefer to foster the attitude that we’re all just learning here, and no matter how much you know, there is always more to learn.

if your looking for people who think of themselves as AE gods, there are other forums for that.
The short answer is a multicore or multiprocessor machine with 2 GB of RAM per core will give you the best possible performance with Nucleo Pro 2.
If you don’t have a multiprocessor or multicore machine, Nucleo Pro does nothing.
However, after 3 GB, windows x32 will not be able to utilize the extra RAM. For that, you want XP 64 which can take advantage of more than 3 GB RAM.
Of course, with XP 64, you have a whole other mess of problems – hardware and software don’t always like XP 64 or Vista 64.
So, honestly, if you want the best possible performance with the least headaches, Run AE on a MAC with Nucleo Pro.
don;t get me wrong, you will definately see a performance increase on windows with AE and NP2 – no question – I’ve been using AE with the various incarnations of Nucleo for years – but given the desire for a high performance, no hassle setup it’s your best bet.
Nucleo Pro is the best thing to ever happen to AE, so unless you have a single processor without a dual core in your system, buy it, or at least test the free trial version.

I would suggest you contact Adobe support for this. upon installation you’re entitled to installation support.
Don’t expect anyone here to upload the presets. It probably violates a whole host of legal stuff.

you’ll need a 64 bit OS for more than 2 GB in AE. (Although with Nucleo Pro 2 running with AE, the extra Ram should help).
I am pretty sure AE runs on Vista 64, but don’t be surprised if a lot of your other non-adobe software does not. 64 Bits is still a can of worms.

Unless you want the letters to move towards or away from the camera, there is no need to use 3D. If you do want that, however, make sure to watch the tutorial on Per-Character 3D text:

Elvis – I used to use CamStudio, but I found that after 2-3 minutes there was a loss of sync between A/V. Still – it is free – and you can’t argue with that.

I get stuff like this all the time. Probably a RAM issue. Not much you can do other than re-start. Sometimes I can’t paste Text from word into AE, but if I shut down AE and restart it works.
In general, if something isn’t working, and you shut down AE and restart and you do the exact same thing and it works – you aren’t doing anything wrong.
