I know this post is very old, but I wanted to share in case it helps other people searching like I have.

We’ve developed this new After Effects script, Easy Arrows, which allows you to attach an auto-orienting arrow (or any shape) to a stroke, with the click of a button. https://modio.tv/downloads/easy-arrows/

We’ve created a script that does something similar to what you’re describing. It allows you to attach an arrow head (or any shape) to the head and tail of an animated stroke.

We just created a script that automates this entire process. You can attach an arrow (or any shape / custom layer) to the front and end of a stroke with the click of a button. It also allows for easy updating of the mask path after creation.

I’ve been researching for the past few days for a video card upgrade and was upset that the Quadro 4000 was one of my only options. I will be ordering one of your GTX 570’s!

Only question, is it possible / wise to run it with the standard GT120 or should I do a replace?
