February 4, 2007 at 2:28 pm in reply to: Need help creating a complicated action in PS-CS2…Hi,
start with only PS open. Click “Record” a new action (name it )…open one of your exported frames….run the filter you want to use……”Save” ….”Close Window”…..”Stop” action.
Then go to “File”…”Automate”…”Batch” and chose the action, you saved earlier……specify your”Source Folder” (your folder with the exported frames) and “Destination Folder” wher you want it to save to…..That’s it.
It’s realy straight forward….Good Luck.

Hi,
check out the podcast tutorials of Aharon Rabinowitz. His tutorial “Final Delivery” explains very well what to do and what to avoid when rendering.
His podcasts are excellent and a great source of information for beginners AND advanced AE users.

Well…..I guess since you said they are on a budget, adding more memory is out of the question, right?
In this case try to lower the amount of “Undo” in the prefs, because everything you do in PS goes into RAM.
Also “purge” often within PS (Edit….Purge…All).I also would suggest to enable “sratch disk” and play around with the memory (used by PS) and image cache settings.
All those settings can be accessed in the preferences. But really all these suggestions are only a temporary fix, and on the long run it’s a waste of time and money. If you really do a lot of Photoshop work, no matter what, the only real solution is ….a better computer 😉
By the way…for less than 1000 bucks you can get a decent MAC…..that blows all those Dells (in the same price range) away…..something to think about 🙂 -
Hi Pete,
two things come to my mind, reading your post:
1:The computer is overheating, and so the power supply shuts of;
2: Virus- run a virus check on the system. Is it shutting off only when running photoshop ?
Can you force it to do the same thing in other applications?Good luck.

January 29, 2007 at 3:11 pm in reply to: Right clicking on an object forces Finder to relaunch – Any IdeasHi,
I had something similar happening to me a while back, both my mouse and tablet started doing “weird” things.
I was able to solve it, just by reinstalling the drivers.
Check the manufacturer’s website for the latest drivers.
Good Luck!

January 29, 2007 at 2:51 pm in reply to: Universal software on PowerBook G4 and PowerMac G5Hi,
Universal Binary means that the application is running “natively” on the new Intel powered processors like MacBookPro etc.
If you run an Application that is not (yet) universal binary, on an Intel Mac, it will still run but not natively; it’ll run in Rosetta, meaning it will be slower because the code is converted to Rosetta. As far as I know, once the application is released as Universal binary, you cannot purchase PPC native applications of that same application anymore , because
Universal binary can still run on “non Intel” PPC macs.
hope that helps.

Hi alaskadude,
If you revise the clip, would you mind posting it? I’d be interested to see how the “final” turned out.
I think if you thicken up the lines and simplify them it will look less computer generated and have a more handcrafted
feel to it (like the Charles Schwab commercial , which I don’t believe was created by “just running a couple filters”;
there was a lot more (handywork) involved. But again, that’s just my 2 cents worth…
Take care,

Hallo Bernd,
As far as I know there’s no “OUTPUT CHANNEL” feature in Illustrator ( like the one in Photoshop),
BUT this might work: Rasterize the image (Object….Rasterize), then go to “Filter…Colors….Adjust Colors”
and move the level sliders as desired ( to lighten or darken). You could probably even create an automated action, if you had lots of pictures.
Hope that helps.

Hi Jack,
Basically, keying is separating an element out of a picture or scene. If you make a selection, you can save that selection as a “mask”. The pixel information of this “key” or “mask” is stored in an Alpha channel, so you can reselect and make changes to it it at any time.
You can either manually build your mask ( key), or use “plug-ins” to make the process of selecting easier. If you save a picture or video with alpha channels ( choose a format that supports Alpha channels like Photoshop “psd’ or AE “Quicktimes Millions colors +” format ) you can import the files into other applications and do whatever you need to, to either to the Alpha and/or the “masked out’ elements.
But this is really only a very very basic explanation. Search the Cow, you’ll find tons of info on keying.
Or check out this link, which contains great info as well:
https://generalspecialist.com/2006/10/greenscreen-and-bluescreen-checklist.aspThat’ll get you started 😉
Take care.

Hi Gabe,
nice job overall. I like the colors and the “painted” effect to it.
Especially since you did it all in AE.I think you could even enhance her face a bit more by simplyfying it , if you were using Illustrators CS2 “Live Trace” feature, just for the facial features, to clean it up a bit. In my opinion eyes, nose, mouth could be more simplified, so they blend in a little more with the undelying color of the face. They seem a little bit to dominant to me.
Aharon Rabinowitz explained it very nice in his cartoon tutorial.
A search of the Cow for” cartoon” should get you there.
Again, I really like the overall look and colors.Take care,
Adi
