OpenGL on the Mac is temporarily disabled on Mac because of an OS issue. The 10.4.10 update has the needed fixes, so hopefully it will be enabled again soon.
Many plug-ins are UB already (Zaxwerks, RE:Vision and a few more). Others will be very, very soon (Trapcode, Digital Anarchy).

July 11, 2007 at 2:36 pm in reply to: Can AE7Win accept footage from DVCProHD720p60?Absolutely. But it’s not Quicktime on the Mac by itself. The DVCPRO HD codec for QT is installed by Final Cut Studio. So if you have FCS on your system, AE (and other Adobe apps) will be able to use DVCPRO HD just fine.

Even if you had a Windows codec for standard P2 MXF files, it wouldn’t help at all with FCP’s Quicktime DVCPRO HD files. You need to export from FCP or even QT player using an alternative Quicktime codec, like PhotoJPEG, Animation, etc.
Adobe announced that they would add native P2/DVCPRO HD support for their video products as soon as possible, even this year hopefully. But that still wouldn’t help with FCP’s way of wrapping DVCPRO HD in Quicktime containers.

Lowtech:
Valid concern, of course.
But consider that AE, PPro, Photoshop and Soundbooth all have gone through not only the usual private beta testing, but also through massive public preview programs, with thousand and thousands of users hitting them hard. Most of the issues that could have been floating around were addressed.Adolfo Rozenfeld

There is a well-known issue with ProRes files from AE:
https://www.capria.tv/2007/06/19/prores-422-after-effects-gotcha/
Adobe and Apple are working together to fix the issue. Hopefully, this will be addressed soon.
DVCPRO HD in Quicktime containers (as captured by FCP) works just fine. Same for Apple Uncompressed, DV50 and other FCS-specific Quicktime codecs.
I haven’t tried exporting ProRes or DVCPRO HD from PS CS3 Extended. Other Quicktime codecs I tried worked perfectly. Importing all kinds of QT files also works fine. You can render a video file directly from PS CS3 Extended, or you can also take PSD files with video layers to AE and render from there.
Bear in mind that the whole Production Studio CS3 costs as much as buying AE + Photoshop Extended as point products. And you get Illustrator CS3, Flash CS3, OnLocation CS3 (DVRack, Bootcamp only for now), Premiere Pro CS3 and Encore CS3. Even if as a FCS user you don’t use PPro or Encore as your main editing/authoring apps, there are still worthwhile features like Blu-Ray disc authoring on the Mac.

True, Steve.
But After Effects CS3 brings a new media layer (called MediaCore) which provides high-performance, native support for many video and audio formats. HDV is one of them. So while it may never be the most enjoyable format to work with, it should be much faster than in AE 7.Adolfo Rozenfeld

Kogster:
I remember another user had a similar problem in the very last days of the Public Preview stage (when CS3 8.00 was already done). So, the issue will be investigated and hopefully there will be a fix if needed.Adolfo Rozenfeld

AE7 was “wrong” and AE CS3 is “right”.
However, if being right means breaking your AE7 project, then it’s wrong again 🙂
It’s worth noting that even though HDV is HDV (duh), there are different ways to “wrap it” and thus it could provide wrong interpretation details. The question is: are you using the final, release version or the public preview?

HDV 1080 *is* 1440×1080 with a PAR of 1.33.
It’s final aspect is equivalent to 1920×1080, but it’s not really 1920×1080.
AE is doing the right thing. You only need to turn on the PAR correction preview button in Comp panel.
There’s no problem in bringing a 1920×1080 still image with square pixels into an HDV comp. AE will do the right thing automatically.Adolfo Rozenfeld

If you what you want is to animate text characters along a 3D path, this is entirely doable with the 3D per-character animation feature in the new version (CS3).
I’m afraid I’d need a video tutorial to explain how to do it 😉Adolfo Rozenfeld
