I would place the image planes inside of the logo using mograph. Set the cloner to object mode and then set the distribution to volume.

For the images you’ll want to use a mograph multishader. The multishader gives you the option of selecting a folder of images, which are then auto-loaded into the shader. Place the shader on your cloner. You can either distribute the images by setting the shader’s mode to Index Ratio, or you can leave it at default and use an effector (with color mode turned on) to sort the pics.

If you want to make it look more realistic you might want to check out the NitroBlast plugin, which is made by the same guy who wrote Thrausi. It’s not free but it’s a lot more powerful.

  • The effect can also depend a lot on the background you’re compositing over. For example, if you’re comping the reflections onto a solid color background it might look weird because we’re used to seeing reflective objects reflect a world and not just objects placed on them. So instead of rendering just a black reflective plane with objects on it, you might also want to add a sky object with a gray color or some kind of blurred image applied to it.

For example, here’s a render with no sky object:

And the same scene, but with a sky object on which I’ve placed a 50% gray material:

The object reflections aren’t brighter in the first comp, but they appear to be because the objects are the only things being reflected.

Sure, here’s a pic showing the Xpresso and the Range Mapper settings:

    Sure, very simple: 7704_butterfly.c4d.zip

Yeah, you could duplicate the lights/geometry and use Xpresso to drive the rotation of the other wing.

Seems like a known issue. Their recommendation was the same as yours.

Open render settings and look at the top-left corner. There’s a dropdown menu that’s set to Standard by default. Change it to “Software”.

Yeah, I’ve run into a number of problems with MoGraph using an effector scale of -1. I’m wondering if it’s a floating point issue since this essentially scales and object to 0.xxx…….

Well, has anyone reported it to Maxon? If no one reports it it’s not going to get fixed!

    Reporting it now. 😉

  • I don’t know of any tutorials for VRay. Best place to ask would be on their forums: https://www.vrayforc4d.net/portal/panel/welcome
