If you look in the target tag’s properties you’ll see a spot for “up vector”. Place a null above your object in 3D space and assign it to the target tag as it’s up vector.

I would try .fbx format. I think it’s pretty good for basic objects but there may be issues with character rigs and cameras. Arndt (see forum banner) has a plugin that deals with camera import.

Sounds like a ram problem to me. I don’t know how the plugin works, but that’s a lot of data you’re dealing with. YOu might try saving out the AEC file without actually rendering. Hopefully that would bring in the 3D elements, allowing you to then bring in the footage manually. I can’t try it right now as I’m in the middle of a render.

btw, in case the bit with the null was confusing, I used it so the camera would look ahead as it followed the path rather than turning religiously. If I was less lazy I’d have made the path spline longer than the tunnel so the null could maintain the same offset throughout the animation.

[Richard Dewick] “That’s easy for you to say Adam 🙂 You’re talking to someone who can successfully produce a 4D logo and make it spin and rotate! Do you know of an example I can see so I know we’re talking about the same thing?”

    I gotcha. 😉

Hopefully this will make it clearer:

Pretty easy to do in Cinema. Create your tube using a sweepNURBS object (extruding a circle spline along a path spline). Then create a camera and give it an “align-to-spline” tag, referencing the path. Then animate the tag’s offset parameter.

January 17, 2008 at 2:59 pm in reply to: Random/Multiple Materials?

The easiest way to go about it is to create one copy of your cloned object per material, give each copy a unique material, and place all the copies under your cloner. Then assign the cloner a random effector and in the effector’s “Parameter” tab, turn the “Modify Clone” slider up to 100%. That randomizes the selection of clones. You can fine tune this by adjusting the effector’s Min/Max sliders (under the “Effector” tab).

    Hi Lizzy,
I’m afraid there’s no easy way to create that kind of bevel. I haven’t seen a 3D app. that can do it automatically. 🙁

[Dick Smith] “is there a way to instance a spline warp animation, cloning or instance seems to break it…”

You can’t do it directly but you *can* do it by cloning or instancing an Xref that references your spline wrap animation.
