  • Compositing Project File Crashes AE

When I attempt to import a compositing project file into AE 7 it crashes AE. We are using C4d 10 with latest AEC plugin.

The C4d project is 500 frames long, 1920X1080, has 3 lights and one camera, and 32 nulls with compositing tags.

Reducing the number of frames does not have an effect, rendering 10 frames still crashes AE.

Reducing 1280X720 does seem to help. Are we just maxing out the RAM?

This is on macpro quad intel w/4 gigs ram.

    Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a ram problem to me. I don’t know how the plugin works, but that’s a lot of data you’re dealing with. YOu might try saving out the AEC file without actually rendering. Hopefully that would bring in the 3D elements, allowing you to then bring in the footage manually. I can’t try it right now as I’m in the middle of a render.

    Thanks for the response.

We tried bringing in the AEC file separate from the render with no success. We also made a separate project where we removed all the lights, took out half of the nulls, and exported the AEC file, still crashed AE on import.

Can you import an AEC file without the associated rendered image sequence?

    Thanks,

I’m not a huge C4D guy, just getting into it, but I am an AE guy and I can tell you that AE 7.0 is not a Universal Binary and runs under emulation on an Intel Mac Pro. That would be my best guest as the culprit, do you have a copy of CS3 available to test with?

We moved it over to CS3 and still crashing.
