    Hello –
I work for a post company that has traditionally used maya for its 3d needs – having become frustrated with maya I found Cinema 4d much more intuitive and easier to use – so now that it’s upgrade time I want to try and sell the big guys on cinema 4d – however I’m concerned with file compatability – will cinema 4d be able to ingest something out of maya and vice versa? I’ve tried exporting a .3ds file from cinema and importing into maya but all the material information is lost. Is there a solution that allows scene file information to travel between cinema and maya that preserves more than just geometry?
    thanks

I would try .fbx format. I think it’s pretty good for basic objects but there may be issues with character rigs and cameras. Arndt (see forum banner) has a plugin that deals with camera import.
