No idea, assuming you gave the null an external compositing tag and checked the “3D Data” box before you saved out the .aec file.

Basically what you do is snap a null to a corner of your plane, add an external compositing tag to the null, and then make sure you check the 3D data box when you save your *.aec file. Note the size of the plane in Cinema.
That will bring in the null with PSR animation. Now in AE, bring in your footage with the same dimensions as your Cinema plane. Select the plane/null in the Cinema comp and alt-drag your footage onto it to replace it. Bingo! Your footage layer should be perfectly aligned and keyed to follow the animation.
Of course you’ll also probably need an object buffer pass to isolate your plane/footage.

Several people have reported that it solves the problem with Cinema sucking up all system resources during rendering.

Q1: Other than the 64 bit issue, there’s no reason to prefer the PC over the Mac or vv for Cinema — for all intents and purposes they work identically and they are developed simultaneously.
Q2: I find dual monitors to be quite advantageous. Cinema’s layout is just about 100% customizable, so you can take full advantage of the extra screen realestate. You can also save multiple layouts for different tasks — similar to AE, etc.

Not much. I believe the nVidia 8800 would be the best choice at the moment (better drivers than ati).

>sounds thick…I’ve been on PCs for years, but I thought OSX was a 64-bit OS?
>Am I better off using C4D on 64-bit Windows to get the best from it?OSX didn’t have 64 support for gui functions prior to Leopard, which prevented 3D apps from going 64 bits. Leopard has addressed that, but Apple made it somewhat difficult for developers to support, so 64 bit conversions are lagging. Hopefully it won’t take too long.

>the others compare?Photo real depends on a number of factors, including modeling, lighting, textures/materials, and primarily the skill of the artist. With few exceptions, Cinema is every bit as capable of photo real rendering as any of the other apps you mentioned. The exceptions might be in sufsurface scattering shaders and ultra-realistic character animation … things you aren’t likely to miss for quite some time. 😉

>to limit me further down the line?AR has raytracing, global illumination, volume effects, caustics, etc., just like MR. Generally it’s much easier to use but less flexible for the power user. I think that most people will get better results faster with AR, just because it is much more user friendly. If you need more power, VRay , finalRender-2, Maxwell Render, etc., are available for Cinema.

apps.No problem. I’m biased, of course, but I think that Cinema is the best choice for someone in your position. And FYI, the skills you learn in any 3D application will translate to any other.

FYI, the tool works in one of two ways: 1) you can click/drag in the editor window to create the chamfer, or you can select a radius in the tool properties and hit the “Apply” button.

That’s peculiar. Only thing I can think of is that your solo’d objects might have parents that have render visibility turned off. In that case they won’t render even if the parents aren’t in the solo’d layer.

Do you happen to have the layer’s render icon turned off? Otherwise it should render normally.

February 7, 2008 at 6:46 pm in reply to: Cinema 4d Scene export as AE composition… how?! what am i missing? The export settings are in Cinema’s render>save properties. You’ll see a check box for “compositing project file” and a drop-down of the available compositor options, including AE. Check the box and click the “save” button to save out an .aec file.
When you import or open the .aec in AE, the plugin will take over and automatically import your Cinema camera, lights, render passes, and what ever else you’ve set up for export (e.g., 3D data tags). If you have multi-pass set up then the plugin will import the passes, add them to your composition, and set up the appropriate transfer modes.

You can’t just export a Cinema scene to AE and render it, as it just comes in as 2.5D layers.
There’s no way to advise you about lowering your rendering times without more information about the scene (resolution, poly count, transparency, reflections, GI, etc.). Can you post a frame?
