Hard to say what the problem is without seeing your setup.

If you are using light objects, you need to employ the include/exclude option in the lights’ scene tab. If you drag the object you want illuminated into the objects box and select “Include”, the lights will only illuminate the object.

If you are using GI, you will have to use the generate/receive GI options in the material>illumination tab for each material assigned to an object that you don’t want to receive illumination. In addition, if you don’t want the objects to cast GI shadows, you will have to use the “seen by GI” option in the compositing tag.

Place a material with the mograph color shader on your hats and a regular material on the other object(s). Then apply a random effector with color mode turned on.

The QT and other image/animation format options are in the render settings>save area. Set your render options and then render to the picture viewer.

  • Click on the top icon in the tool palette on the left side of the screen (looks like a graph) and select “CINEMA 4D Menu”. That should do the trick.

This isn’t exactly your scenario, but it’s sort of close and might give you an idea how to do it with Mograph. Basically I cloned an object onto a sphere and animated that to get the initial swarm motion (with a Random effector set to noise). Then I used an inheritance effector to send to clones to a Matrix object that I cloned onto an identical sphere with different animation. The splitting/sticking behavior is accomplished by animating the effectors’ weight, which is controlled by a noise shader in the Shader Effector. The noise is also animated via the layer shader.

I’m sure it’s possible to do with Thinking Particles, no doubt with more control, but I think I’d need a week and at least a case of beer to nail that down. 🙂

You could zoom the camera out and render to a larger dimension.

I would request .obj, but it won’t import materials unless you use the Riptide plugin (free and pay versions available) and Pro-E produces an .mtl file.

[Jonathan Pears] “On a side note – isn’t that slightly ‘behind the times’ for a modern day graphics software?”

I would say so. They have updated their supported sound formats since I’ve been using Cinema (since v6). Even the .wav support is pretty limited (use PCM).

  • What you need to do is turn the Shader Effector’s “weight transform” parameter up to 100% (parameter tab), and then go into the Random effector’s Falloff tab and reduce it’s weight to 0%.
