I have CADs made in pro-engineer. I have asked for the files in VRML format and both VRML 1 and VRML 2 are coming up with error messages when i try and import into R11.

I asked the supplier what other formats pro-engineer exports to and he provided the following list:

    .IGS

    .stp

    .stl

    .jpg

    .slp

    .pic

    .set

    .vda

    .neu

    .ct

    .cat

    .iv

    .obj

    .unv

    .gbf

    .asc

    .facet

    .sat

    .x_t

    .ed

    .tif

    .shd

    .eps

My question is which of these would suit me best (i.e retain as much of the original CAD as possible e.g materials etc)

    Any help greatly appreciated.

I would request .obj, but it won’t import materials unless you use the Riptide plugin (free and pay versions available) and Pro-E produces an .mtl file.
