Can’t do it in R10 and you couldn’t do it in R9 either, AFAIK.

  • Are you in point, polygon, or edge mode?

Just make sure it’s an authorized dealer (you can call Maxon and ask). If so, go for the cheaper price. It’s not unusual for resellers to sell for less than the software company. If the company undersold them they wouldn’t get many resellers!

    Yep: Tools>Animation.

  • Make sure you have the cube selected rather than the Hypernurb object.

As you discovered, visible object lights don’t have any shading. What I would do is set the text light not to display, then make a copy of the text and exclude it from the light. Give the copied text a material with the glow channel active. Use only internal glow, or more internal than external.

Do you have your video materials in the color channel or the luminance channel? If they’re in the color channel then they should be affected by the lights. If they’re in the luminence channel then they won’t be affected by scene lighting.

Modo is nice application for modeling and rendering, but it’s animation tools are primitive at best.

It would take some serious thought — and serious rigging — to create a real transformer effect, but if you want polygons to basically explode and reform on another object, you can do that with pBlurp or MoGraph.

In MoGraph, you would use the Inheritance Effector in Direct mode, with the “morph motion” box checked. Apply the effector to the fracture object.

Then create a matrix object set to object mode and have it reference the second object (the one you want to morph into). The Matrix Object should be set to Surface mode and the count should be set to the number of polygons in the object that you’re fracturing.

Finally, set your inheritance effector to reference the matrix object and animate the effector’s strength parameter to perform the morph. You can add in some other effectors and/or deformers create fancier effects.
