or better still….hire a sound recordist for the day.

If you try do two or more jobs simultaneously (direct, camera, sound) , then everything will suffer, including your reputation!

The benefits you will get from having an experienced recordist will far outweigh the extra cost.

theres a chap called clive d’urban who works at Dubbs in London. He specialises in writing database solutions using Filemaker Pro for exactly the kind of situations you describe.

if memory serves me, then i solved the problem by doing the effect in AE and using a reduce flicker filter on the offending clip.

I noticed this problem when i tried something similar on FCP5.1.4, and i didn’t find a cure.

However, with ProRes422 in FCP6 i would be tempted to not use the downconverter in the camera but capture to one of the prores flavours. Do the effect on the timeline, now that it can handle multiple formats, and let FCP worry about the downconversions.

I have not tried it myself yet, but i will be doing very soon!

  • Whoah…too much maths!! – i became an editor so i wouldn’t have to do much math!

Anyway, when i have to do this its simply a matter of using distort at 33.33% and scale at 136% ( i find this scale gives a cleaner edge of frame).

You might also want to try importing the material with the anamorphic option in your capture settings switched off.

There will be a degradation of the image – after all, you are effectively scaling up by a third. You just have to remember that those watching the final edit don’t have the 16:9 originals running concurrently to compare it to..

    Hi Paul,
thanks for the reply… i just realised reading your reply that i was inaccurate in my description. Its not the Project thats corrupt but a Sequence within a Project.

I have rebuilt the sequence from an earlier version, and re-graded, re-edited etc. Basically redone everything i did this morning prior to the problem. It all seems to work fine now.

Once the edit has been approved and layed off to tape, i will try your suggestions but at the moment i’m going to avoid doing anything to any media.

    regards
