I am shooting HDV PAL on a Sony Z1, downconverting to SD in camera, and editing using Final Cut Pro 6.

When I change the speed of a clip it causes the clip to flicker after it is rendered. It looks like a fields issue.

Has anyone come across this problem, or able to suggest a solution?

Had same issue and couldn’t reslove it… removed the sloMo from the final project. Still not heard of why or found a fix!

Shooting HDV NTSC Captured as HD FCP 5.1 Looked great as preview and when rendered… when exported in every possible form all the sloMo flickered!

If you find a fix let me know

I noticed this problem when i tried something similar on FCP5.1.4, and i didn’t find a cure.

However, with ProRes422 in FCP6 i would be tempted to not use the downconverter in the camera but capture to one of the prores flavours. Do the effect on the timeline, now that it can handle multiple formats, and let FCP worry about the downconversions.

I have not tried it myself yet, but i will be doing very soon!

if memory serves me, then i solved the problem by doing the effect in AE and using a reduce flicker filter on the offending clip.

Thanks for your response yspyyspy. I am not attempting any 3:2 pulldown or working in progressive so I don’t see how the link you provided relates.

Thanks for your response lightning ad. Will try working in Prores next project and see how that works. The thing is, something as basic as a speed effect should just work, as it has for me in all other incarnations since FCP1 without this problem.
