if you already have After Effects, then the most cost effective 3d tracker i have found is called CameraTracker made by The Foundry. It is available as a plug-in for AE, abd is the same tracker they put into Nuke.
The data can then be used solely in AE or you can export it for use in 3d apps like Cinema4d. works perfectly for the task you asked about

much better idea!
I did the same thing a year back, just ensure your talent is well lit and expose for them. The background will probably register as too bright, but thats what you are after to get the clean look!
Also keep the talent away from the backdrop, as any slight shadow will ruin the effect.

August 23, 2011 at 8:24 am in reply to: How To – Lily Allen FU video – stretch/warp effectLooks to me like they have used a lot of different techniques, and not all of them within AE. Here’s what i’d try first…although i’m only guessing .
For the camera tracking, i’d use The Foundrys CameraTracker. Then select tracked points that are connected to the object you want to stretch, and add nulls to those. Then create several layers – a clean background plate, as well as a masked foreground subject.
Using an adjustment layer i’d put a mesh warp onto the foreground subject, with the adjustment layer parented to the objects tracked nulls – so that the effect remains locked to the subject.
Then composite this lot over the clean background plate. The bendy buildings, etc are probably done in a 3d package such as Cinema 3d, which can also work with the tracking data that you can export from AE Cameratracker.

your problem is caused by the way colour is generated. In RGB – yellow is comprised of both Red and Green, so when you tell Keylight to remove the green from your shot, it removes not only the pure green of your greenscreen, but also every other place where green is used to create other colours and shades.
To avoid this you will need to learn about masks, holdout mattes, garbages mattes and rotoscoping. Its very rare to find a single easy plug-in that will pull a perfect key first time.
good luck

August 16, 2011 at 8:53 am in reply to: Having text come from “behind” an object. A question about masks.Position your text box in a 3d layer (assuming you want it to be 3d) to get the correct perspective for the moving text.
Precomp the text layer, then apply your mask to the precomp.
Any changes to the text, you make to the original text layer, by opening up the precomp, and then you will not have to reapply all the masks and positioning every time.
