FWIW, I installed vista business 64 last night on a new laptop – smoothest windows install I’ve ever done. quite surprised. And faster install than xp pro, despite larger size.
then added network cable – got immediate web access. very pleasant.have V8 trial version running smoothly. no hiccups so far.

FWIW, was on the sony forums today, and there are a couple of new threads about crashes during render occuring with either 7e or 8, but not in 7d.
IIRC, the cause was isolated as HDV material with edits occuring between i-frames. Nothing on SD.
you haven’t mentioned your setup, nor your source material, but if you have the choice, I’d try 7d.

your project properties set right? one method to guarantee it is to browse for media type from within Project window, highlight any of your HDV clips, and you’re all set to go. Apologies if this is old news
😉FWIW, my E6600 C2D with 2GB can handle multiple streams of HDV quite happily. When i do (eg) 3 x PiP in a 4th, it starts to bog down, but that’s to be expected.

have you set the project to the same format as the video?
ie adding PAL video to an NTSC project won’t make for a happy preview

right click the main movie and choose – is something like ‘insert scene selection menu’ IIRC

1) press D to change the cursor, until you get the area selection cursor
2) highlight all the A/B roll material in a partic interview, by dragging the cursor over it
3) change the cursor back to the normal arrow cursor, and drag that material to a new location. If you find that a bit iffy, first press ‘G’ to group it all, then moving it (whether ripple is on or not) will be as a single object
Could also cut/paste it, if you prefer

um……….you happy making cuts using the ‘S’ key, at the cursor position on the timeline?
then shuffling the clips around?
am just trying to ascertain whether we’re starting on the same ground
