I think Encore can do it. Think likewise of DVD Studio Pro. But don’t take my word for it.

have an E6600 with 2GB ram. using PIP 3-4 tracks HDV straight – no problem / real time🙂

once you have applied the transition, just overlap your clips the req amount. fastest method in da west

to give you some idea, with an E6600, 2GB and arbitrary vid card, takes me approx 1/2 to 2/3 real time to render to AVI
print to tape then happens in realtime.
