Upon searching for vegas 7 tricks/tips/tutorials, i get a few beginners tutorials for vegas 5 or vegas 6 if i’m lucky, and then some sites to buy their CD to teach you.

Where are the sites dedicated to vegas 7? I want to learn how do manipulate things like ‘generated media’, learn what envelopes mean and how they can help me, understand what it takes to make really advanced titling, nifty effect chains, masters of the composition mode, etc.

and of course since it’s now 2007 and youtube is so popular, these tutorials should nearly all be video tutorials, or at the very least show a video of a before and after of the effect generated.

for instance, i really like this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lnFphfBHok
and i’m sure i could learn it by spending a few weeks exploring every setting for every effect until i think i’ve got it. but it feels like i’m the only one out there who uses vegas 7, theres not even a book out yet on this, what’s going on!?

Nothing free, but Gary Kleiners tutorials are great. I’d recommend starting with a book though, Instant Vegas or something similar.

Vegas 7 added a lot more HDV as well as XDCAM support.
Other than that, almost any tutorial done for any version of Vegas is directly applicable to the latest version.
Edward Troxel’s free newsletters (he’s one of the moderators here) are a great resource.
As Terje mentioned, Gary Kleiner (the other moderator) has a great series of DVDs that are also applicable.
In the meantime, if you do a YouTube search using sony vegas training, you’ll get a lot of hits.
Finally, Blue7 Media is a very comprehensive site with links to all kinds of Vegas sites.

[yumology] ” want to learn how do manipulate things like ‘generated media’, learn what envelopes mean and how they can help me, understand what it takes to make really advanced titling, nifty effect chains, masters of the composition mode, etc.”

Generally speaking: If you know how to do those things in Vegas 5 or Vegas 6, you’ll also know how to do them in Vegas 7. Some things haven’t changed much between versions.

I know that Class On Demand “Vegas 7 update” video. Most Vegas 7 stuff available simple “builds” on what you should already know from Vegas 3/4/5/6.

so it doesn’t bother anyone else that there’s been no free tutorials made in the last, i dunno 8 months. does that mean vegas is dead?

i’ve been using vegas since 5.0 and i always thought vegas was equally as powerful as premier, or avid. i upgraded to 7.0 and am getting back into the scene, but there is no scene. i’m just fed up with the lack of community support. i think it’s time to move to a powerful NLE already.

there is certainly no lack of free tutorials/tricks/tips/tools/effects/videos for after effects.

“i’m just fed up with the lack of community support.

Huh?? IN addition to this forum, I’m on 4 other Vegas forums daily and the level of help and support on all of them is extraordinary. I have never had a question that didn’t get answered, usually within an hour of posting.

i think it’s time to move to a powerful NLE already.”

    That’s your decision.
I worked on a much more powerful system (dpsVelocity) for years.
While it had some excellent features (the real-time render being one of them), it’s audio capabilities fell far short of what Vegas was capable of right from version 1.0

What do you mean there’s been no new free tutorials? There was a new on posted on the Sony site just a couple of days ago. Plus, as Mike said, the community is alive and well in helping answering questions.

As for Premiere or Avid, Vegas is every bit as powerful as them in some areas, less powerful in a few, and more powerful in others. For one example, look at all the time saving scripts available for Vegas.

There are a ton of active Vegas communities—Sony’s, is very good. There are a bunch of free tutorials out there if you look for them.

Are you kidding? There’s tons of support and tutorials available. In addition, the folks on this forum have helped me through all kinds of questions.
