Yes I tried resetting Preferences, same result. This the message I keep getting when I try opening up a transition or effect in Motion from FCP X

“There was a problem making a copy of _____. The file could not be written.”

Here’s is what I tried. I made a new user, opened up FCP X and then went to a Transition, and it opened up in Motion. I then copied that folder over from the new user account into my regular user account. I pasted it in where I was suppose to. I then opened up FCP X and it was in there. I tried opening up that transition with Motion from FCP X and it worked fine.

It seems like I cannot open a transition or effect from FCP X if it has not already been through motion.

Do you have any idea what that would be?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I import my footage at original Media, not pro res 422. Sorry about that. Do I still have to optimize it on export? If I optimize it on import would I still have to render transitions?

    Thanks again

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have a 2010 Power Mac Intel, 10 GB Ram. When I import my clips I do not optimize. It plays fine on my timeline. I only have to render effects and transitions, even cross fades.

Would I have to render cross fades and effects if I optimize the footage as I import it?

    Thanks in advance.

  • I made a Blu-Ray Folder and it worked perfectly. I then burned it using Roxio Toast 11 and it burned great. I tested it and everything works fine.

  • Hi,

    Hi,

Thanks for the info. That seems like a good plan.

What about chapters? After I export it as a QT file, can I import it into Premiere, Add chapter markers to it, then bring it to Adobe Media Encoder and make it an h.264 HDTV 720P 29.97? Will it keep the chapters after I put it on a thumb drive?

    Thanks in advance

  • Hi,

The project file and the bins and all of the media will be on the external drives.

  • It will probably be AMA linked footage at first, but then transcoding will take place.

So, if it’s AMA, once they plug their FireWire Drive into the computer, they would open Avid, when the opening screen comes on, all they would do is point to their hard drive and when Avid opens the media should be all linked up and ready to edit? Am I right about that?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Thanks for that tip. Is there any way to save the font size in the bins so when I start a new project the font is the size 20 instead of 11?

    Thanks in advance

  • Ok,

So here is how I should lay things out.

    1. Make a folder on my Hard Drive and name it “Avid MC Projects”
    2. Open up Avid and start a new project and navigate it to the “Avid MC Projects” folder on my Drive.
    3. Press OK and Avid will open up.
    4. Once Inside Avid I made 2 New Bins
    1. Clips (Which is where I will keep my Transcoded footage)
    2. Sequences (In This Bin, I made a few Blank Sequences with the names of sequences that I use all the time (Ex. C-Hr, Party, Ceremony, etc…)

    Is this correct?

Also, Can I save the Clips Bin and my Sequences Bin (before I start to put Media in it) on another Drive and Paste it in another project so I don’t have to keep making these Bins everytime I start a new project.

    Thanks in advance
