  • OK Cool,

    One more question.

Right now I have a folder with about 2 and a half hours of footage imported into FCP 7 from a MINI DV HDV 1440 x 1080i. That folder also has Music, Titles, Pictures. etc…

I made a folder on a different drive that is labeled “Avid MC Projects.” That folder will be the drive where I keep all my Avid Project Files and where I will navigate to on my Avid New Project Screen and leave it there.

Do I have to copy over that 2 and a half hours of Mini DV footage into that “Avid MC Projects” folder just to AMA link to it then Transcode it in Avid? Or Can I leave it in that original folder, that is on another drive, and AMA link to that folder, and then Transcode it when it’s in Avid?

Of course, it will be easier not to have it copy over to another drive..

    Thanks Again

  • Ok,

So this is how it should be done: (Please correct me if I am wrong)

    1. Create a folder on one of Firewire Hard Drives and name it Avid
    2. Open up Avid & Navigate to inside that folder on that drive
    3. Click New project & Name that project.
    4. It will create that Project file in that Avid folder.
    4. I should never have to Navigate to another folder again.

On all of my projects, I use different Music, Titles etc.. that are specific to that project and will be imported into Avid. I like to create a folder with the couples names on it and store their specific items in that folder. Can I make that folder on any Drive or should it be on that same drive that I made my first “Avid” folder?

    Thanks Again

    Hi,

I just looked at the website for Resolve and it looks like it’s a color grading tool. Does Resolve also convert files as well?

    Thanks

    HI Again,

I am doing a test now. I do have FCP 7 installed on my computer. I have started a new project in Avid MC 6 and I AMA Linked to another set of clips that were imported Via DV Deck (MINI DV) at HDV 1440 x 1080i through FCP 7.
I am transcoding it now at Target Resolution HDV 1080i MXF. Is that the right resolution? That is what the original clips were captured at and originally shot at.

I am also going to run a clip through MPEG Streamclip and try and do a Fast Import since one of the clips will not import through AMA into Avid. I don’t know why. The other 2 went in fine.

But my real question in the Target Resolution Question.

    Thanks Again

    Hi,

Thanks for the info. The footage was originally Captured into FCP 7 via Mini DV Tapes. I just linked that AMA.

When I transcode, I pick HDV 1080i as my Codec correct? That what the footage is

    Thanks

    HI Scott,

Thanks for the info. For me on my Mac when I press Option + Command + C, that is what loads the clip into my source Monitor. I

Is there a way to Map that Keyboard Command (Option + Command + C to a keyboard shortcut so I don’t have to press all three of those buttons to get the clip into the Source Monitor?

    Thanks

  • Thanks, Got it.

May 29, 2013 at 10:32 pm in reply to: What is best workflow for editing a wedding?

    Hi,

A long time ago I used to edit weddings with Avid XPress Pro. It worked great. Then I got a job at a place that only used Final Cut Pro. So I have been using FCP since Version 5.5 (When it became FCP HD). I still use FCP 7 and I love it.

I want to learn Avid again because I want to be ready if a job opportunity comes along. Since FCP X was released and Apple is not doing any more upgrading to FCP Studio 3. A lot of people are switching to either Premiere or Avid. I know how to use Premiere and I don’t like it. I like Encore because you can create Blu-Ray discs.

So, right now I am just working with about 3 hours of footage that was shot on a Mini DV tape.(HD 1440 x 1080i) THis is not a “real” project. I’m just using it to get to know Avid again and figure out how to do the things I do in FCP 7.

I know it’s going to be a few weeks for me to get it down where I know exactly where the buttons are and how and where I can use them.

So, the footage is all AMA right now just for practice. At the end I’m guess I am going to either transcode or Consolidate the entire sequence , then bring it to Premiere, just to add chapters for Encore. Then I’m going to encode it in Media Encoder then make a Blu-Ray.

The next one I’m going to do, I am going to bring in all of the footage in Avid, Via AMA, then Consolidate it and work on it that way.

I probably will have questions about that in the future.

    Thanks
