I am curious how a person checks the heat levels, knows that overclocking is occuring and “dials down to 2.4 ghz”? That sounds like very technical stuff. How do us earthlings make this knowledge work for us. Turning off stuff in the background makes sense. I even have had great success in the last few days uninstalling a bunch of Google bells and whistles. Freeing up all external and internal (40g) hard drives (I have 3, 160g, 160g, and 80g)have about 20% available capacity is another effort.

Hope this helps. Surprising how many times I have to reask elementary questions and find I forgot one simple step.

I assume you download using a fire wire 1394 connection to your camcorder. And you set your camcorder on play/edit. and hook up the power source so you don’t run the battery down. And you hear the tone that indicates the connection has been made.

Then with the Sony Vegas Movie Studio software you go to the file menu and click on Capture Video. A box will pop up and ask you to verify or change the name of the tape (it remembers the last one you named). It then offers three options to chose. 1.) Don’t capture, 2.)Capture at the present position of the tape or 3. Capture at the beginning of the tape.

When you finish that you can click on the capture icon (you will find that as you roll your cursor over the set of icons in the lower left hand corner of the screen.

The capture process should begin. Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I would hope there are more that a handful of readers of this forum. Perhaps Vegas is so easy that no one feels the need to visit. I was talking to another Vegas user today who thought Vegas was every bit as good as Final Cut Pro.

I will try that Alex, thanks. Save as dar. That’s the key I think. It is always so simple after I am shown how. So the dar holds the combination of wav and mpeg. Right?

Are you importing an mpeg1 file that has been rendered, compressed. So are you dropping this onto a Vegas editing timeline? Then are you going to create a DVD?

Am afraid I am confused. But lately that is quite normal.

I may not be the one to discuss codecs as I freely admit knowing nothing about them. And I have not attempted importing an .avi file from a still camera. But something does not sound right about your not being able to upload the file to Vegas.

Are you trying to upload the file directly from a camera through a USB cable? OR are you downloading the file from the camera to your computer through media cards and then browsing, finding and importing the .avi file, using the project media button?
