ditto
generally, and I Do mean generally, as in READ YOUR EULA a distributer will allow around 2-4 machines as long as you are not using them at the same time. The idea is to not be getting MORE from your software than you should be. ie, fcp will quit on you if you have the same licneced version on 2 computers on the same network.

November 19, 2007 at 12:44 am in reply to: editing laptop upgrade – taking the Macbook Pro plunge?I love my 12″ powerbook too, soo good for what it is. And don’t let any one ever tell you D5 won’t play on it. I’ve run d5 10 bit uncompressed footage through it with 30k particles in AE..
If you can wait for the new cores, than do it, but if you back here for only the holidays, might be a bad Idea. the new 13″ mbp is slated to NOT have a disk drive to conserve space not sure how this will work but hey, could be awesome, or could be the new newton/cube…
a good investment for p2 transferring is their portable p2 hard drive, a little slow but very nice, it’s like 80 gigs, and has a usb and fw out and allows you to dump off p2 data either straight to it, or to your computer. Done this a lot. and it works great.
they are good little computers, and the ability to duel boot doesn’t hurt for those nights in the hotel when team fortress 2 sounds better than dailies…

Really, It still shocks me on a regular basis.

I did both
cloned my laptop and upgrade installed
as well as installed fresh on my mac pro
It is a noticable difference between the two performance wise as far as startup and how long it took to get going
upgrade/install is EXTREMELY shaky and shouldn’t really be done
but a clean install produced great results.

[David Roth Weiss] “Okay Sean, cease and desist with the Yiddish lingo. Nobody in L.A. will ever believe you’re Jewish, it doesn’t make any difference how many Yiddish words you throw around.
David”
halfway through reading this but I have to comment now
this is 10% offensive
10% stupid
120% hilarious.
and I’m 90% sure thats coffee on my pants, but it might be something else caused by excessive laughter.too many yiddish speaking relative for that not to make me laugh…HARD

November 16, 2007 at 5:49 pm in reply to: Should Editing Computer Be Used Only for Editing? To be honest If you are running a facility I’m all for using deepfreeze from faronics. It allows you to ‘freeze’ certain or all disks so you could do anything you wanted to the computer, but the second you log out/restart it sets it back to the way you froze it. And I mean you could run an rm-rf command that deleted your entire drive, restart and your good to go, though you may want to repair permissions.
It allows the creation of a stable drive (which you should immediately clone the second it’s ‘perfect’and than freeze it so that no odd prefs can be altered and it’s the ultimate virus protection.

don’t mean to be a pointless picky ass, but
it’s command, the apple logo has been moved off that button to stop confusing software users asking where the command key is, and how come there are no hot keys that use the apple key. Just an fyi
also on a pc it’s control up and down arrow and control brackets

proper link i guess is this
https://www.avid.com/we-are-listeningdid I ever rant about my time trying to upgrade a very old avid system?
i’m gonna say no..
Well a teacher at the school i work at/attend has an old media composer, and wanted to donate it to us so we could use the system as a base platform to upgrade from, well that being said I called avid.
After 2 days of 4 seperate calls I spent a total amount of 45 minutes listening to nothing but ringing on their west coast distribution line. As in if you go to the avid webpage and go to contact us, the number it gives you…
Thats customer service.
