  • ANY good news regarding Leopard????? How about new systems???

Knowing all the problems that many users are experiencing, My plan was that I would get my new octocore MacPro and do a clean install of Tiger to eleviate all the Leopard issues.

Now I find this on the cow…..

(said with a Johnny Carson impression) “I did NOT know that!”

Ok, so heres the deal, we all have read the problems that people are having, How about some good news? Lets hear from more people that are NOT experiencing troubles.
Especially from people who bought new systems and not upgraded. I’ve read a few, but hope there are more.

I went through a reseller that I have used before and I assumed that he would tell me about these major issues……Well he didn’t.
I’ve ordered a MacPro dual 3GHz quadcore, Panasonic BT-LH1700w, Lacie 2.5 TB Raid and AJA IOHD (among some other things).

Will I be able to use my new system, like speakers and monitor with the IOHD, or is it an email computer until all updates and releases?

I have a working MacBook Pro system that I will use in worst case scenario……

my good friend/colleague just orderd a new quad and called apple up and asked for one with tiger or tigr +leopard install disk, they said that was fine and sent him a non upgraded version just an fyi.

Also it’s not all bad, I’ve beenmessing with leopard more and more, very little trouble tbh, but I haven’t been very thorough.

Also why a lacie 2.5 tb raid? surely there are better options, lacies larger systems, well their systems in general, aren’t the most reliable.

    just my 2 cents

We have four year old LaCies still running and we have two LaCie S2S SATA arrays that have been running without fail for over two years now. We haven’t had any issues with any of our LaCies to date and in fact our 2TB FW800 RAID unit saved us when three CalDigit’s all took a nose dive.

I also have had very good luck with Lacie, so far only used single drives, but I’ve used them for several years with relatively few problems. I did have one go south on me, but they replaced it with no hassles.
I’m well aware of the problems that others have had with them, but I like em.

Thanks for the tip regarding pre-loading, I’ll try that.

We’ve had horrible luck with LaCie drives. They’ll work flawlessly for a year, and then a little less than half the drives we’ve had have either failed to the point of complete re-format, or failed to the point of sending back to LaCie. We won’t go near them now, and haven’t for over two years, and we couldn’t be happier!

    Just my 2 cents.

I have had two LaCie D2s die within 3 months of each other…I owned one…it died. Got a free replacement, it died. Same with G-Raid..I had one die. And I have had ZERO issues with CalDigit stuff.

What does this prove? Drives die…nothing you can do about that. No matter what external case you have (none of the names mentioned manufacture drives, but rather the containers for them) a hard drive will die. Yes, the CASE manufacturer does matter…so what does THAT prove? That even case manufacturers aren’t infallible.

    S*%t happens.

I agree, Shane, though I bet there’s something to be said of the reliability of the craftsman ship in the manufacturing of the cases and their interaction with the drives. What that “said” thing is…. I don’t know. 😉
