Thanks for all the feedback on this. This makes sense, we checked the folder, nothing in it. Fortunately, even with the OS error, the media automatically wet to the library-1 volume as opposed to the library folder.

Continually appreciative of how responsive this community is with problems as they arise.

    Thank you.

Try placing the Sync audio in a compound clip. Will this play on the timeline? In the browser? Can you export this audio file and hear it in its entirety. I would suggest that it’s something with levels, but the fact that it works in the project seems odd. The other staple question, have you tried trashing your preferences? Sometimes that will fix some of these random oddities.
    Good luck

Is there anyplace where these clips overlap other clips below? if not than it’s supposed to drop next to the main storyline.

Try jumping out of the timeline to the project window and re-entering said project. I find this often works to refresh the location of tracks. As does changing to a different timeline view then switching back. Otherwise trashing your preferences may help. Hopefully one of these three works for you. Good Luck.

Thanks again Tim, in your tutorial you may want to mention what seems to cause the issue.

Looks like Mark figured it out, in premier, under Prefrences: Media there is a checkbox that says “Write XMP ID to files on import.”

I tested 2 media sets, one with the checkmark, one no checkmark, sure enough having this option selected causes FCPX media to go offline. When is deselected, I had no problems with disconnecting media.

Brilliant, it worked with just a little tweak to the XML, thank you.

Thank you all for the advice. Matthew, that is interesting to know. I did open up premier during this mess. But never imported anything… could be a cause.

Timothy, thank you for the advice. tried to reconnect via drag and drop, no luck.
I had some luck with the FCPXML. It reconnected the core media in a new event, unfortunately the footage is still de-linked in the sequence itself. I tried to adjust the XML to read the asset correctly, but no luck.

Because this project had an unmuxed export made before this mess, I have some flexibility to play with some other options to “force” the sequence to reconnect. I’ll post if I have any success. In the meantime, I think we will be adjusting our workflow in FCPX to avoid this in the future.
Probably keeping core files from a 7 import as well as copying them to FCP event folder for the edit itself.

Kinda unfortunate to have to keep data in duplicate while working, but until this issue is fixed, may be our best option.

Thank you all again for the advise.

Interesting. I work between FCP7, X (Somewhat now) MC, and premier. Avid is one of the most powerful tools out there, but it is also a cumbersom and non-intuitive interface to learn. Great to see some free tutorials out finally on how to best utilize the product.

Exactly, Im not trying to make j & l cuts, they simply occur and leave overlapping audio. With either the blade tool or the range selection tool. And like i said there is no rhyme or reason as to when it happens.

One cut I’ll make with a blade on collapsed audio and get this result. The next I delete a range with expanded audio and get the same result.

Three cuts later I can do the exact same process to make a cut and the audio cuts normally. Sill cant find a reason.

    Thaks,

  • This could be a challenge in X. Here instead of tracks, x views everything as layers of sorts, so if you apply a filter or transition to the top “Layer” it covers everything, even if the image on that layer does not. Based on what your doing it may be incredibly challenging to complete in x using this method.
My best recommendation (in this program) would be to complete each sequence separately first as a full screen item, export it. and re-import the “finished” sequences as separate clips with their transitions already in place, then they can be re-sized accordingly.

Wow… even as I write it it sounds like a pain… but it’s the best I can think of.

Otherwise, try 7, After-effects, or possibly motion to achieve the same result without the same level of labor.

    Good Luck!

No actually, the sound wasn’t synced with the audio from a separate source. Although I’m isolating certain tracks obviously (1 or 2 channels out of 4 active) but its all the same source file(s).

    Thanks,
    Aaron
