To Tom: The exact same thing happens only you are hearing it not seeing it (made it very confusing when this first occurred with collapsed audio:)

To Tim, you are exactly right in terms of what’s happening occurring with the audio (thanks for the illustration).

I was actually wondering if anyone had found a specific bug causing this that can be worked around. Its happened to me on expanded and collapsed audio, using the blade tool or through deleting a selected range.

Oddest thing is that there seems to be no pattern to the problem, one cut it happens the next 14 it doesn’t, the following 9 it does and so on.

Sounds from you Tim like this may just be some random cases of deus ex machina. I’ll just keep reporting it, maybe the next update there will be a fix.

Thanks for the help all, much obliged.

Sorry does it look blurry on final output or just in playback in fcpx?

Check for corrupted media around 90% of the way through your cut. Generally this error relates to media QT is not dealing with correctly.

I find FCPX to be strange with media playback, it may deal with the footage fine inside the program, but outputting it runs into an error.

Try exporting the last half in 10 second segments, this should at least narrow down wherein the problem lies.

just saw that the rest of my post is missing…

    Shot DVCPRO50,SD 720X480

Imported from camera via fcp 7 and transferred to an external (no longer in 7’s capture scratch)

Imported into 10, not merged into fcpx event folder, no proxy or optimized media created.Edited and exported w/o issue.

I used this method to avoid any lost media and it does lead to some large render folders but it has not caused any playback issues until now.
I edited 4 projects just like this in fcpx, no updates or adjustments wee made to my computer between that one and the last, cannot figure out what could have suddenly caused such problems.

    any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I think FCPX just has major issues with 1440 x 1080 in general. My version will not allow me to import files shot at this aspect at all.

To fix mis-sized clips I find the distort tool to be your best direct answer, adjust the clips to proper size. This attribute can be copied and pasted to other clips as well.

    good luck!
