sychronized clip goes silent in event viewer
I have synchronised two videoclips (AVCHD 1080p/50 from the panasonic HC-X900) with two corresponding audioclips (zoom H2n, wav).
And now I am viewing them and setting in- and out-points and attaching keywords.
But!Halfway the synchronised clip, the audio falls silent. Not while I am listening, but when I have stopped (pressing the space bar) and when I want to start listening again.
Thus, if I have given keywords to a portion of the clip, and I want to go on viewing the rest, then there is no sound anymore in that part of the synchronised clip. If I put the pink line (scrubber?) at the beginning of the clip, I hear everything just fine. But if i put it where I left off, there is no sound.(but there are audiowaves though, in the green part of the clip, and ther used to be sound as well)So what I do now is start listening in the beginning of the clip en let it play untill the point where I left of (this works, the sound is there if I get to the portion where before I heard nothing) and set a new in and outpoint and attach keywords. But this is slow working.
I have not had this problem before, and I have done the same procedure before, it used to work just fine.
Does anyone recognise this? What should I do?
Please ask if this is not clear, english is not my mothertongue.

the keyworded clip is silent too, but when I drag it to the timeline, the sound is back.
I say sound, not audio, because the clip DOES have audio, even if it is silent.
I can see the waves, and the audio tab in the information pane shows audio too.
I have turned FCPX off and on again, this did not help. -
Try placing the Sync audio in a compound clip. Will this play on the timeline? In the browser? Can you export this audio file and hear it in its entirety. I would suggest that it’s something with levels, but the fact that it works in the project seems odd. The other staple question, have you tried trashing your preferences? Sometimes that will fix some of these random oddities.

I just started experiencing this issue too. Maybe I haven’t done much organizing since 10.0.4 but for some reason when I’m going through a clip I’ll lose audio playback on a compound clip. It definitely seems like a bug, but so far I haven’t been able to recreate it consistently.

I tested your tip by making a compound clip from the synced clip that falls silent.
I now have a new clip in the browser that is a compound clip identical tot the synced clip, and YESSS!
there is sound untill the end in this new clip if I play it from the browser (and also when I play it from the timeline).Do you understand why this is so?
or what caused my original synced clip to stop playing its sound?about your question of exporting the audio file:
I don’t know what you mean,
the original wav file is fine and the audio channel of the video has sound too.
Also if I do not interrupt playing the synced clip, I hear the sound untill the end of the cliped, but if I press space to stop playing and than press space again to start playing again, then I hear no sound anymore (even though the audiowaves are there.)I have not tried thrashing my preferences yet, because it sounds a bit intimidating, and I do not know yet how to do that.

Trashing the preferences didn’t help, but it’s not as dangerous as it sounds. FCPX makes a bunch of backups and it’ll just reset all your preferences to the defaults. Just duplicate the file and delete, then if it doesn’t help you can rename the duplicate back to the same as the original to restore:
This is really driving me crazy, happens randomly in the middle of the clip while I’m keywording.

yes, I was so keywording!
(I love the way fcp x forces my disorganised creativity to get organised first, so I can run wild afterwards, and don’t have to wast time searching for scenes I was sure I had shot and cannot find anymore in the creative frenzy!)
I was keywording fragments (parts) of synchronised audio- and video footage, by setting in- and outpoints and attaching keywords.By the way the link you give seems dead (404)

My event is on an external drive, so I just tried it on a different computer with FCPX installed. The audio that had previously dropped out is still missing in the same place even on the different computer. Strange, I’m guessing there’s some sort of corruption that’s traveling with the event folder.

the link worked, it took me some time to find the preference files though,
as they were hidden (so were the libraries) (apple is not my native computerlanguage)but I managed to thrash them.
This did not fix the bug.here https://tech.onthis.net/2012/02/17/no-sound-in-video-clip-final-cut-pro-x/
is another mention of a similar problem.
The solution mentioned here does not work in my caseShould we now tell apple about it? How?

I have a feeling apple already knows about it, but I think I found a workaround if it’s still giving you trouble.
Double click your problem compound clip so it opens up in the timeline.
Adjust the volumes of one of the tracks, like lower the volume half way down. See if there’s audio in the event browser now. If there is, set your audio back, and you should be good to go! (for now…)
