Take a look: I did a quick mockup for cutting in DV with 1.78 letterbox to simulate the conformed HD image area with the center cut SD safe area. See, what ESPN does is produce the entire feed in HD and do a simple center-cut to feed the SD side. You don’t deliver them anything in SD. From what I udnerstand this is to save money on having to pay seperate license fees to the NFL/MLB/NBA for SD.

You’re using a clip that was exported as a reference quicktime. So when FCP is trying to load that clip, it’s looking for the original media file it was refererenced to. Since you moved your media, the original media isn’t automatically linked. Either copy the media back and find which file is causing you the grief, or keep hitting cancel until the project loads and then re-link that reference qt

The beauty of FW is portability. You can easily take the drive home, to the hotel, on your laptop, or plug it into any existing FCP system without additional hardware. We use FW exclusively for offline editing.

My advice: take an hour ajd try a couple codecs and see what best fits your output quality vs. storage. DV50 might work great for you, or JPEG, or 8/10 Uncompressed.

Dude, do this: export your 29.97 fps EDL from the offline. Go into Cinema Tools and convert the 29.97 EDL to a 23.98 EDL. Batch capture the new EDL in HD. At worst you’ll have edits that are 1 frame off – just slip them by hand. We’ve done this several time cutting comercials at 29.97 and having the effects house conforming at 1080/24.

Yeah, but I’d rather just use Carbon Copy Cloner so I know nothing gets missed. One fell swoop.

From what I understand, SPDIF is basically an unbalanced AES signal. So if you have something to turn that RCA into an XLR or BNC, you can typically connect it to an AES plug and it works.
