The test footage I shot was in 720 60p using XDCAM. I set my project settings for the same. I will try again tonight when I get back to my office. Thanks for you help.

Well, here’s the issue. I got the multibridge, because Premiere Pro cannot edit XDCAM files natively. The EX1 can shoot in HDV and send it out via firewire, but I wanted higher quality. Eventually they’re saying Premiere will release a plug-in allowing people to edit XDCAM natively.

    Felix,

Out of curiosity, what method are you using to downconvert? I just ordered the Blackmagic Multibridge Pro, and am hoping that makes a difference. I’ll use the SDI/HD output, edit in HD, and use the Multibridge to downconvert back to SD.

    Best,

    Craig,

Yeah, I am aware that the HDV function is not ideal. It was our first day using the camera in a last-minute gig, and I hadn’t had a chance to shoot with it prior. So I went with what I know, and didn’t want to take any chances.

We don’t have the luxury to capture stuff ‘straight from the head’, but I would like to try using the XDCAM codec at 1080p recorded to the SxS card and downconverting using the SDI output in SD. Any suggestions on a card or method to best capture the SDI SD output from the EX1 onto our PC system? Thanks a lot. You sound very knowledgable.

It’s too bad they didn’t think to add a feathering option for the crop tool. That would have made things easier.

Basically, if I crop the top and the bottom of an otherwise full-screen clip, how do I make the crop lines soft and not hard?

Ha! It worked. FREAKIN’ DUH! I knew it would be right in front of my face. I swear, some days I leave my brain at home. Thanks a lot.

I have used SnagIt in the past. The quality is awful. I will look into this Camtasia that you speak of. ha. Thanks guys.
