Ed, I don’t know about Premiere but using Media 100 I only name the clips once Sony Transfer has imported them into the bin of my choice. Can’t you do that? Of course if you are importing many clips at once it’s not so convenient to name them later. I tend to select the part of the clip I want (sub clip)and import it, much as I used to with tape, working through for the sections I required. I guess most of you do the lot at once but that way you’re taking it all in.

Brian. I can’t resist butting in on your epic with Craig. First of all I should say (Craig didn’t) that he is the man on this forum when it comes to workflow for the EX cameras, as he is on many other matters too.
I too am more ‘artistic’ than techie but you can’t just rely on your art with all this new kit. Presumably you chose to go with the EX tapeless acquisition as indeed did I, and it was obvious that we have to learn the new game. The very first thing any EX owner must do (IMHO) is view, learn and inwardly digest,the workshop on the cameras by Doug Jensen and published on DVD by Vortex Media. Everything is covered from camera set ups, Picture Profiles, etc to post shooting workflows and it helped me hugely to understand what I was getting in to. Even now, on my third production with this camera I revert to the DVD on various points.
I too am based in London and would be happy to chat to you over a beer or coffee sometime, shared experience is the secret of The Cow’s success. I’m not sure what the approved method of contact is if one doesn’t want to divulge details in public, maybe the Cow bosses could give you my E Mail.

The issues to which you refer I believe are only encountered when there are flashes occurring in your scenes. I don’t think you have that problem with fast movement and to make the best of this there are various shutter set ups to assist you which doubtless will be explained by better men than me as soon as they return to work.

Michael, I think by mentioning BD he means Blu-Ray rather than Broadcast Definition.

Don, in the Vortex Media EX workshop DVD Doug Jensen advises against formatting cards. He advises deleting clips in the camera for further use. Formatting deletes everything from the card including any saved camera settings. These include PP’s, screen lay out, audio settings etc etc and I have these all saved on all my cards. No need to format, it achieves nothing.

Rafael, if you’re downloading files from the card to a hard drive surely you do use Clip Browser. The Transfer app. is used to ingest as video into your edit system. At least that’s how I work.
