Mark, I don’t know where in the world you live but I’m in the UK and I got the CVP Shoulder Brace from my suppliers top-teks.co.uk who themselves obtained the kit from mitcorp.com. I made a particular point of requesting the quick release attachment.

Wrong Bob, I have the support reviewed by Bloom and I do have a quick release function. You have to specify a small extra attachment for the base that’s all. I shoot a lot of ‘on the go’ material for documentaries and have found this support quite invaluable. It’s light, it’s cheap and I can fit and release in seconds. The only drawback might be that it’s not easy to get the camera high enough for eye level shots. But with the lightweight of the EX 1 I imagine it’s easier than with the heavier EX 3.

And, you must be correct, with Media 100 I have to select the codec within that (my choice is ProRes usually) and then do the import and it’s probably the same with FCP. But Brent is right, for goodness sake preserve the complete BPAV folder.

Kyle, I realise you may not want to start with new software but I find that using BitVice for my DVD encoding gives the best results. I set for VBR at an average of 7mbps with two passes and have never had a DVD not play in a variety of players. BitVice now prepares the audio ac3 files at the same time as the m2v video.

Enrico, to make absolutely certain why not send a DVD to someone in the UK for them to test it in various players etc. I think however that the modern kit is improving in this respect and what you have already been advised should pertain.

Kris, silly question I know but did you have the audio tracks available on your timeline? I know that sometimes I’m transferring one programme to a newly opened one and if I don’t have the required number of audio tracks available it won’t go. I’ve never experienced your problem in any of the many Media 100 versions over the years, very odd indeed, can Floh Peters offer any suggestions as to what happened?

I can take EX clips directly into Media 100 as ProRes 422 HQ via Sony Transfer. Media 100 is great.

Kurt, you must know that the earthquake in Japan played havoc with Sony’s manufacturing (amongst many others of course). There is a shortage of tape and clearly EX cameras. If it was Europe that would go on for years but I suspect Japan will recover pretty darn soon although there was another big tremor last week I heard.

Actually Olof it’s a one step process surely? Open Transfer with your Media 100 Project and Bin ready, select or trim an EX clip and import directly to your Media 100 Bin. Provided your codec (ProRes, Media 100 or whatever) is already specified the clip will come in as that codec.

Noah, surely BD is the way to go? Mine look so much, much better than DVD’s of the same production. Encoding and burning is easy and fast with Titanium Toast 11 Pro and players cost £99 in the UK. There is, it is true, some resistance from the punters who are rather stuck with DVD but BD are making progress.
