I love Media 100 but am too busy editing to play with Facebook, I leave that to my grandchildren. The posts on one of the FCP forums were pretty depressing concerning attitudes to Media 100, can’t understand what they are complaining about. Boris needs to do some serious PR work.

No idea I’m afraid Jonathan, you’re losing me with most of this stuff. All I know is that BitVice does a great downscale and encode from 1920 X 1080i 25 frame PAL HD material.

Try the latest Toast 11 Pro, encodes and burns BD’s for me OK.

It all depends on the encoding software. What are you using for your downscale? Many editing systems are not that satisfactory, whereas BitVice is exceptional and the new versions are much, much faster than they used to be.

The best downconvert from HD to SD DVD that I know is BitVice. All done in one go from a ProRes 422 HQ QT .mov file, together with a great encode. My stuff is 1920 X 1080i shot at 25 fps so I’m not sure if yours will work but I imagine it would.

Their (US) television pics are not as good as ours, neither are their programmes come to think of it. Actually, some American homes I’ve been in can play PAL DVD’s on their players, I think the modern kit will play both.
My festival still insists on NTSC and I’ve been advised that the conversion is best done in Compressor and I’m being sent the settings.

Eric, but not the other way around I’m being told from America. I’ve had a film accepted by a festival in America and they insist on demanding an NTSC disc, either DVD or BD. They accepted a PAL DVD for initial submission which they obviously played. For the public exhibition they want all NTSC.
Is there an easy conversion, otherwise I’ll not bother? I’ve got Toast 11 Pro, will that convert PAL to NTSC. I’m prepared to re import my HD file (ProRes 422 HQ) provided I can then do an easy conversion.
By the way, I thought that Blu-Ray did not differentiate between PAL and NTSC, obviously I’m wrong.

I’ve just got back from hospital where I had surgery and missed the Webinar, is there any place I can catch it please? I get on very well with the RGB Levels in the Colour FX window on Media 100 Suite. Is the Boris one more complicated and is it better than the one I use? Any answers, either from fellow users or Boris people would be appreciated.

Liam, I believe that Titanium Toast (version 11 Pro) will enable you to extract what you want from your DVD. However, that has already been encoded to MPEG 2 which is rather compressed and I don’t think that there is any way you can get that back to an uncompressed state. You would need the original material for that.
