Exact copy and editing software.
Hi, if this is in the wrong forum, I apologise and ask you to advise me where it should go if wrong. Thank you.
I am new to working with video so would appreciate baby steps please as necessary.
I am having a major headache trying to find the program/s that will allow me to extract/copy a standard DVD disc (IFO/VOB/MPEGII) into an exact copy of a single file in AVI “lossless” format.
The problems I keep finding are that they (the programs up to now):
a) restrict the output file size (say 2GB)
b) they automatically use codecs and compress and so become lossy
c) they expect me to want to burn the copy back onto a disc which I do/will not.I will not be burning the output back onto disc. It will remain on a hard drive. There are no issues with hard drive space and so I want and need to keep the original quality even if the file size runs into 100GB’s.
Once I have the exact copy, I will edit the single AVI file into the parts I need (such as removing chapters, titles, menus etc as these are not required). Then I will delete the extraction.
Once I have all the parts I need, I then need to add effects, text etc and then create a new compilation.
The new lossless AVI compilation needs to maintain the exact copy status with no loss of video or audio quality. Again, I will not be burning the output back onto disc. It will remain on a hard drive. There are no issues with hard drive space and so I want and need to keep the original quality even if the file size runs into 1,000GB’s.
The final lossless AVI compilation file (single file) needs to be able to contain in excess of ten hours running time (can someone please confirm if this is possible as I cannot find an answer anywhere on this point – if hard drive space is not an issue, in AVI format, are there any file size restrictions? I’m told there are not but since the programs restrict the output file size, I cannot determine this to be true as yet).
Since most codecs, as I read, make some form of compression and so lose quality etc, how do I stop the program from using such codecs? I have not yet seen a program that offers AVI lossless.
So, please can anyone advise me which program/s will let me:
1 – extract the MPEGII format DVD.
2 – re-encode it to lossless AVI format.
3 – Make edits, add additional material and effects.
4 – create compilations (no file size restrictions in this format – other than hard drive space) in AVI lossless format. If more than one program is required or specific addons, please advise. The right program should also have an edit panel that can be made to full screen size for ease of editing (and not having to screw my eyes up trying to see haha).
Again, the output files are not for copying, resale, streaming etc (so please do not think I am a ripper or whatever the term is). Region is PAL.
If you need additional information, please ask.
I am so looking forward to being pointed in the right direction after wasting so much time, effort and money and getting nowhere.
Thank you in advance for your help.
