I find myself in the market for a new EX1R and everybody has them out of stock.
Are they EOL? I can’t find any rumors of a successor either…..
    Any news out there?

If this were a personal purchase I would be all over it. Unfortunately this has to be a corporate purchase in the 3-4 week timeframe. I am currently specing, so I can ask for the right amount of money and then we have to purchase new. If the EX1R is end of life we will look elsewhere…. Right now we are trying to assess why they are unavailable.

Kurt, try Bill Mintzer at Rule/Boston Camera, 617 277 2200. He will certainly be able to tell you if they are available and they will treat you great.

Kurt, you must know that the earthquake in Japan played havoc with Sony’s manufacturing (amongst many others of course). There is a shortage of tape and clearly EX cameras. If it was Europe that would go on for years but I suspect Japan will recover pretty darn soon although there was another big tremor last week I heard.

    Have you tried Armato’s?

The disaster in Japan has made havoc of much more than camera shortages. You won’t see many Toyota Prius’ on the lots either. Many parts for TV’s and other electronics are also hard to get.

I know the SxS cards jumped in price from $700 to $1,000 if you wanted a 32 Gig.

I just purchased an EX1R from Adorama.

If you check their website, you can’t even find a listing for the EX1R. B&H lists it, but it’s on a 6-10 week back ordered. I called B&H and they simply confirmed that. However, I called Adorama and they had/have EX1R’s. Not sure if I got their only one or not. It didn’t sound like it was the only one.

So, if you’re still looking for one, give them a call.
