Don’t just move over your OS drive. If your old quad is a quad G5, it will defiantly not work, and if the old one is a MacPro Quad it will probably not work.

The Intel Machines require a Intel specific build of the OS. And newer Intel machines have an even newer build of the OS, and will not run from older builds of the OS even if they are Intel.

For example the new MacBook Pro’s that just came out, will Kernal Panic if you attempt to boot them from a the OS from the previous model of MacBook Pro.

I could never live with running FCP on a mini, it it works at all then render and compression times would be way to long.

If you read the system requirements for Final Cut Studio it says “Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors”

The mac mini has a integrated Intel graphics processor.

You do the math.

I prefer to edit and master in HD then doen convert using compressor. that way if the client wants a HD DVD later or a HD video file I do nit have to reedit.

No, never use USB hard drives for editing video.

Video shot in HDV look WONDERFUL when they are down-converted to SD for delivery.

The most common delivery is still SD DVD, and it is quite simple to down-convert to SD DVD using compressor.

FCP or FCE which is it.

If you have FCP then you also have compressor. Export using compressor and choose one of the web presets, and the in the settings make sure you set your aspect ratio.

You want to use iDVD, I always say why deliver a DVD that will look like one that your 9 year old nephew can make, don’t get me wrong iDVD can make great looking DVD’s, but I assume you are a professional because you are on a professional forum. How would your client feel about you work when they pop it in the DVD player and it looks just like the one their kid just made.

Export using compressor. You should be fine using the presets compressor has. Then pull the files into DVD SP. If you have questions about settings do a search of the DVD SP forum.
