I do not wish to be rude, and in no way do I wish to offend you at all, but you are still vary difficult to understand.

If I under stand you correctly your computer gets slow when others on your network are copying files from your computers to their computers. And you said that they are large video files that they are taking from your computers.

This is normal because you are both trying to access the same hard drive on your computer at the same time. So basically the hard drive is being given twice as much work to do.

There is no easy way to know who is accessing the files from your computer, the easiest way would be to just ask around the office.

If you do not want others to copy files off of your computer then turn sharing off in the network preferences.

If sharing these large files is necessary then you really should get something like a XSAN and put all shared files on there then have each computer connect to that. XSAN’s are built to share large amounts of information with many computers.

Computer displays are never display accurate color for video, unless you use something like the Matrox MXO, and that only works with DVI monitors, so you cant use it on the built in LCD.

As far as calibration goes unless you are trying to get color accuracy between your printer and display then you don’t really need to.

So for video you will need an external reference monitor.

[Rob Alexander] “I push the power button, which lights, then it chimes, fans start and after a couple of seconds with a clunk it all goes dead.”

You mean it looses power after those few seconds. If so it is ether going to be the power supply or the logic board. I seriously doubt that Apple Stores can even gets parts for computes as old as yours. You can take it in and have a them take a look at it, but I would really consider getting a new computer.

September 2, 2007 at 3:48 am in reply to: Can anyone get this file to open & export?

It will open and play in VLC but nothing else.

When trying to open it in quicktime it says “An invalid sample description was found in the movie.”

That leads me tho think that there is some corruption in it. streamclip wont even read it.

You are going to have to give us a lot more information if anyone is going to be able to help.

    What are your timeline settings?
What is the image resolution of your photos?
What file type are your photos?
How are you previewing the video?

Personally I am not a fan of doing photo slide shows in Final Cut Pro. Now I don’t quite know if that is what you are doing, because you did not say. But I find that the large amount of time spent key framing is a wast of time when there are much easier ways to get great looking photo slideshows. I use fotomagico it is fast and easy, then I just export a file that matches my FCP timeline if I need to combine it with other video.

Try an XML, but the big question is the footage in a format that FCP 4 can read.
