video card
Posted by Gerret Warner on September 1, 2007 at 3:33 pmI’m interested in buying a card so I can take my DVPro50 edit component out to Beta SP and/or DVCAM, but I want something I can use when I move up to my next G5, something I anticipate doing in the next year. I don’t expect to be buying a digital deck anytime soon, though I will be shooting 720. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

You can’t move to a new G5 thy stopped making them about a year ago.

September 1, 2007 at 5:18 pmI’ve got a single-processor G5 and G4 Powerbook, and no video card. I’m now shooting on an HVX200. If I buy a card for the G5, I want to be able to send component out… and I’m hoping the card will still be usable in a new Mac Pro.

September 1, 2007 at 5:34 pmIf you buy a second-hand G5, then you should be OK, but as zrb said, they’ve been discontinued by Apple. There is no card that will go in both a G5 and a MacPro AFAIK. You could look at an external box like an AJA Io that connects via FireWire.
All the best,
Tom

September 2, 2007 at 5:14 amHi.
I do not know if G5 had PCIe but if it had then
DeckLink HD Extreme would be nice thing with component in and out. I have SD version and it is great.—

as it is cheaper a bit 🙂 but then you lose SDI.—
