Giving your self 10 seconds isnt just good for shooting HDV it is a good habbit to have no matter what format you are shooting. Also let the camera role for 10 seconds after your shot.

I would always ask if they have the origonal mastered tapes because the video on DVD’s has already been compressed, so the origonal master will give you a higher quality.

if they dont have the origonal tape masters, first remind then to always make tape masters and hen use mpgstreamclip

First off youo need the newist version of FCP for the Mac Pro (v5.1) the older versions will not run on the new intell processers.

the easy way is to just use the migration assistant when you start up the mac pro for the first time

however the adobie apps and the apple pro apps are ones that you will want to reinstall anyway for then to work properly

Perhaps a segment on media manager and its usefullness especialy with ongoing projects.

My tape organization used to be a mess untill I built a data base using filemaker pro, even though I only use it on one computer it is set up so that it can be used by multiple users on the same network acsessing it through a simple web browser. It tells me everything about a tape, its format, the date shot, who shot it, contents of couorse, time remaining on the tape, etc.
