I installed 8b from the Sony site last week? Is that the latest?

I’ve never used a registry cleaner…how does it work?

Well Cindy..for basic registry cleaning, you can try the cleaner
i recommended earlier in this post (ccleaner).
Install it, then open..then at left you see a button name registry, press it, and then back on the bottom right you see ‘scan for issues’
press that…and when its completed you then press ‘fix selected issues'(all issues must be ticked)…then click ‘fix all selected issues’ then when its done click ‘ok’, thats it.

I highly recommend this software and method because it is simple and effective without the risks of damaging your registry and removing components that’s important to windows, which sometimes happen using
    too powerful registry cleaning software.

I hate Vista with avengance ! if you dont want to do a totally fresh install maybe its time to think about dual-boot between vista and xp ?

    Hey Steve,

Just installed and ran the CCleaner; however, Vegas still did not load. It is still hanging on “Initializing Audio Engine”

Then, I tried clicking on DVD Architect, and I am now geting a message that an error has occurred.

What do you recommend at this point?

Vista is giving you no end to your problems….(Personally I would revert to XP)…I dont and will not use Vista on my editing bay-PC, But i assume you are not prepared to go that route.

Hence my recommendation is to clean(reformat)your hard drive and reinstall all your applications nice and fresh…(seems your problems will only increase if you continue this route).

    Hi Cindy

I just re-read your first thread on this subject from July 1st. Something to remember. Always create a restore point before instaling something, (anything) so you’ll have a good place to go back to if the install either messes with Vegas or if something goes wrong with the install.

You can then go back to that restore point and get rid of everything that was changed after you created the restore point.

So, as Steve and I both suggested, re-format your HD and start over with the recovery disk.

I’m having the same problem on my laptop for over a month. I’ve done all the suggestions on at the Sony site. I use XP media center. I’m reading this thread with great interest. I’m at the point of formating and starting over, also. But, procrastinating from beginning that chore. Would love to find out it’s something simple. I have Norton Internet Security. Paint Shop Pro X has been on the laptop for 2 years. I’ve tried the registry cleaner also (advanced registry optimizer).

I’m still cannot open Vegas; but Sony gave me a list of things to try this past week, I just have not had a chance to try them. But when I do, I’ll post the outcome.

    Hi Jason

[Jason Boone] “I have Norton Internet Security. Paint Shop Pro X”

I’d personally dump the Norton and Paint Shop Pro 10 I believe is Corel.

I still use PSP 8 just before it was sold to Corel. hmmmm Are we seeing a trend here? 😉 (Norton and Corel)?

I’m so happy I just got a MacBook Pro. Only thing running on the XP side will be Vegas-DVDA-Cinescore-Sound Forge and SonicFire Pro. ha ha

I was having this issue also. I finally got it to work doing the following. I used Revo Uninstaller Pro (Free version won’t remove everything)to uninstall Vegas 32bit and 64bit in ‘moderate’ mode.

    Then Restarted machine.

Then used Glary utilities (free) to fix any registry errors.
Checked the Program files folders for any leftover Vegas files to delete.

    Restarted again.

    Reinstalled Vegas and everything worked.

Any other combination or sequence I tried wouldn’t work.

Strangely Vegas still had all of my preferences set correctly.

    Good luck!
