July 4, 2008 at 9:48 pmI finally got Vegas 8.0b working on my x64 laptop (running Vista) by disabling DEP for it in system prefs. Everything else (SF, DVDSTPRO, ACID,) all worked fine without having to take this step. I use Vegas more than the other Sony Apps, so it was good to get it working again.

July 5, 2008 at 6:04 ami wish i could be of more help – i’m still running xp on all my machines.
just to reiterate what my steps would be (and testing to see whether vegas opened after each one of them):
a. uninstall nortons using
https://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
(i’d do this EVEN if vegas was running!)b. uninstall everything connected with corel – there’s been some mention of problems with corel over on the sony forum as well. how you do a clean uninstall of this product i don’t know?
c. disable DEP
d. run your favourite reg cleaner.
e. uninstall then re-install vegas, just to make sure….
other than that, i don’t know.
good luck

July 5, 2008 at 2:14 pmHi Cindy
Hang in there, we’ll get your vegas running yet! Hopefully ;-)))Anyway sorry but I don’t know anything about Vista, however in reference to the Corel stuff, I’m sure in your control panel – add/remove programs, there’s got to be a reference to Corel and the Codec.
You do have a control panel and an add/remove programs folder don’t you? No I’m not being funny, I just don’t know Vista.
As a last resort, you might consider using your recovery disk and start all over, installing Vegas first and staying away from Corel until you know for sure it won’t conflict with Vegas.

July 6, 2008 at 4:18 amYes, in Vista you can Add/Remove programs…it’s just now under “Programs” in control panel.
Vista has everything found in XP…but sometimes options are just moved or named differently (which can be confusing, thank goodness there’s a search tab).
I have searched for the Codec program I installed but I don’t see it under add/remove programs, which may be one of my problems.
My other issue is I don’t really want to uninstalled Ulead, since I use both Vegas & Ulead 11.5 plus depending on the type of video project I’m working with. I did, however, uninstall, Corel PaintShop Pro 2 which is what I believe to have caused Vegas to not work. Ulead is now part of the Corel family, just separte from PaintShop. Life can be so confusing – I should have just stayed with a Mac 🙂

July 6, 2008 at 4:41 amHi Michael,
Yes….I’ve changed it to everything in the list. Thank you…any other ideas?
And, of course, Sony help has not sent me any troubleshooting ideas since Wednesday, I guess they’re closed for the holiday.

July 6, 2008 at 11:12 pmHi Cindy
Ha! I just bought a MacBook Pro to replace my old 9lb Toshiba Laptop. Mac’s wonderful now and with BootCamp I’ll install XP and all my Sony Vegas stuff.
So back to your problem. You use Ulead? ugh! (personal opinion). Uninstalling any graphic or video sofware shouldn’t delete your files if you stored them outside of program’s folder. I never file anything within any program’s folder. And lately I’ve been using the Documents folder for everything which I never used to do. All my VEG files are in a Sony VEG folder and vids are on another HD.
You’re at the point now just to get the recovery disk out and run it, or start uninstalling everything until you see if Vegas Opens. Since the last stuff you installed was from Corel, Take it all out. Try Vegas and go on from there.
Do you have a registry cleaner program for your Vista? Something may be lurkig in the registry. Usually a registry cleaner will find old ‘crap’ and clean it out. I use PC Tools Registry Mechanic and on another computer I have Amust registry cleaner.
https://www.amustsoft.com/
https://www.pctools.com/registry-mechanic/Don’t follow any links you may get in various spam email for registry cleaners either.
Uh, what verson of Vegas are you using? 8b? If it’s not the latest version do an upgrade and that just may solve the problem forcing Vegas to open. Another thought;-)
