I haven’t been experiencing that Render issue, but I think that is because my workflow as always been what the Apple article says to do. When I work on sequences and make changes, I duplicate them, but put the DUPLICATE aside and continue.”Quite honestly, I duplicate my sequences all the time and work with the duplicates. I create up to 20 timelines or more in a documentary project and always work with the newly duplicated timeline as I move forward. That’s the way we run all three suites here and have never seen any sort of a render issue.

To be honest, we don’t much care whether you use FCS or not.”You should care.
Out here in LA, these things stick in the minds of people. Including clients.
Even if they fix this tomorrow, a year from now clients will think Final Cut is a cheap solution that makes you re-render everything.
It’s just one more “bullet-point” that people will drop when discussing Avid vs. FCP. The stink will last forever.
Apple is making a KILLING now, especially with the iPhone. The amount of money and resources they have – this kind of thing should never happen. And it’s not like they have an infinite amount of hardware environments they have to test on. That’s why Macs are supposed to be so reliable. There are only a handful of hardware possibilities.

Has anyone tried reconnecting the render files?

I’m with you Walter, no problems using standard FCP techniques here either. Thankfully!!!

July 29, 2007 at 7:14 pmDavid, Walter…you are just special. I USED to be special…not suffering these issues. but now I am. And this is with a CLEAN install of FCP on a freshly installed OS on a separate hard drive than my FCP 5.1.4 system. So it is fresh as a daisy.
And yes, I tried connecting to the render files and It does reconnect…most of them. But I didn’t notice this issue until Oliver pointed out that article and I tried a DIFFERENT workflow than I usually do.

David, Walter…you are just special. I USED to be special…not suffering these issues. but now I am.”Wow, that’s just insane. I wonder what triggers this behavior. Everyone I consult and all the folks I’ve trained, I’ve never heard anyone have an issue with Render files just disappearing.
The only time I’ve ever seen anything like this was due to a failure in the hard drive array itself, nothing to do with FCP. But then I lost all the media for the entire project.
So I’m assuming there’s no constant to the render issue? As in it’s always a type of shot or something in the timeline that seems to trigger bad renders?

July 29, 2007 at 7:53 pmI too have the render problem. G5Dual. FCP6.1. But migrating to an Octo this coming week, so we’ll see if that makes it better (or worse!)
In addition, when I hit Command R to render all and “CONFORM HDV VIDEO” appears, it renders ok, but then, when finished, if I hit Command R immediately again, it wants to render it all again. It never seems satisfied.
What’s with that?

July 29, 2007 at 8:05 pmThe vast majority of users do not live or work in LA.
It’s clearly not a hardware issue, so that Apple only has one platform to work on is not relevant.
Equally clearly the test program is inadequate. Many users are not seeing the problem because they aren’t duplicating sequences, or using the application in a way that doesn’t cause the render file loss. That’s what happens when the beta program is too narrow, too few options are tried, too few application behaviors are tested. Until of course the application becomes available and used in many different workflows, with many different techniques. We all get to beta test it.
All the best,
Tom

What happens with this forum software (I think) and certainly other forum software is that if you bracket the URL with chicken Beaks meaning < and > the URL will disappear so it is quite probable you posted the URL but when you hit the post direct button it will be gone.
