Its the same principle as back to my mack or any other remote access software, they are fine for basic stuff but for video it will LAG you will not be able to reasonably view video foe editing.

Only one firewire buss. That means that cameras/decks must share that bus with your media drive and that can be problematic.

Well its ether a bad display or bad graphics card. If you have another display try it with that, if the issue continues it is most likely the graphics card.

Well the biggest issue that I see is that you have FCP 5 and are attempting run it on a intel mac. The first version of FCP that was intel compatible was 5.1
The other issue is that you “upgraded” installing a new OS on on top of your old one on a machine that you have pro apps installed is almost always problematic. I always recommend erasing and installing the OS and then installing FCS clean.

I’m guessing you just installed the new FCS as an upgrade. Pro Apps can be finiky so I always recomed erasing the drive installing a clean OS then intalling FCS. Or at the vary least use FCP Remover to uninstall the old FCS first.

Exporting from FCP directly to compressor is never a good way to go.
Export a reference file and then bring that into compressor.
