[Raymond Tuquero] “I don’t believe FCP 5 had ProRes fully”
It did not have it at all.

What easy set up did you use in FCP?

[Steven Foxx] “The camera is a Sony Handycam model HDR-SR1.
It shoots 1080i Recording. AVCHD”That is exactly the information needed to answer your question.
[Steven Foxx] “The MAC G5 that I have does not even see the files “
According to this support article AVCHS requires an Intel Processor, so unfortunately your computer is to old to get the job done.

[Neil Parr-Davies] “I take it there’s no other (free!) option?”
Not without spending TIME converting the video to a codec that does not only come with FCP.
Weight the options. do a small test of converting and use the time that that clip takes to convert to figure out how ling it would take to convert all of it. If the time it would take you to convert it is worth more then $80 then just buy the program and move on with things.

[Steven Foxx] “shot all of my footage in HD. The MAC G5 that I have does not even see the files much less import them into the MAC hard drive.”
Could you perhaps give us some information on the video files?
Think of video like cars Ford, Honda and Toyota are all cars just like HDV, DVC PRO HD and ProRes are all formats of video. By only saying you have HD video is much like saying you have a SUV. But it still does not tell us the make and model of your car.

November 20, 2009 at 6:48 am in reply to: Routing my Capture Device and Scratch Disk through a Firewire Hub[Jeremy Garchow] “You can either spend some money on an ethernet based storage environment, or get a couple of capture stations (MacPros) and have a bunch of iMacs for editing.”
Agreed those would be the best options.
I myself an planing on on getting a new i7 Quad core iMac myself and will be switching from esata storage to gigabit ethernet storage.
[Dennis Leppell] ” routinely daisy-chain my personal hdv camera and a lacie drive through fw400 on my laptop. The FW hub, though, may give you a bottleneck. “
The bottleneck would have absolutely nothing to do with a hub, it would have everything to do with the fact that the computer has only one firewire buss (not port but buss they are VARY different)
I myself have had issues when connecting a camera/deck to the dame firewire buss as media drives. Dropped frames on capture, and when going back to tape are quite common.
Anyway a gigabit ethernet storage is going to be much faster then even firewire 800 so that alone will give you much better storage.

November 19, 2009 at 5:55 pm in reply to: Final Cut Export finishes without the full movie![kevin johnson] “Another editor told me Pro Res was a little better but didn’t really matter”
It is better for editing, but you have already done that. Converting to ProRes now is not going to add any additional quality.
Try just exporting with current settings and see if it exports fully.

November 19, 2009 at 5:36 pm in reply to: Final Cut Export finishes without the full movie!AGAIN I ask.
Did you edit it in HDV or in ProRes. If you edited it in HDV what are you trying to accomplish by exporting using ProRes and will it export if you just have it export with the current timeline settings?
