You would be better off putting DVCPRO HD video onto a ProRes time line then doing the opposite like you propose.

[Raymond Tuquero] “Since you have an Intel Machine”

We don’t know that nether his post nor his profile tell us what type of machine he is on.

Besides v4.5 will not run on an intel machine.

[Jerry Hofmann] “As I recall, 4.5 won’t work with HDV”

    Correct

[Jerry Hofmann] “if your deliverable is SD, then capture the HDV as ProRes”

Pro Res was not introduced until v6 so he cannot capture to Pro Res.

[Jaysen Wynn] “Do I downconvert the HD footage? “

I would yes. Set the HDV camera to down convert and capture as SD.

[Annette & Glyn Hobson] “We shot the video on a canon Z1 and have transferred the footage into FCP4”

The Z1 shoots HDV and DV however FCP4 cannot edit HDV footage so you are going to need to clear a few things up for us.

Did you shoot and edit in DV?
Did you shoot in HDV and have the files captured elsewhere and converted to DVC PRO HD that FCP4 can work with.

What are your time line settings?

[Michael Harrington] “Can I partition into 2 500GB and make the second 500GB a time machine?”

Doing that would be pointless. Backing up to the same physical drive adds absolutely no safety what so ever. If the one drive fails you loose your system and your back up.

Try doing a complete erase and install of the OS and FCS software.

Many kernal panics are caused by the OS and other software getting jacked up somehow.

I have heard that those converters take a LONG LONG time to convert though.

November 21, 2009 at 6:53 pm in reply to: Slightly OT But Interesting: Google’s Chrome OS

I’ve been playing around with it via VMWare myself.

Currently it is buggy and vary limited, but it is still VARY new. However the thing has BIG potential. Because its a web based OS the hardware requirements to run the thing are vary small. When you think about it it would really only need the processing power of in iPhone, and even 16GB of flash memory would be overkill for the thing. I think it is vary possible that we could see ChromeBooks for $200 or less. At that price they would make the perfect little computer for 95% of people out there (most people just use the web on a computer anyway)

Ont think that is way nice is that because it is web based, you can literally log into any ChromeOS system and your settings and things will be the same (you have to log in with your gmail account). For example I set it up in VMware then completely deleted the virtual machine and set it up again. When I logged in every thing was exactly the same.

I’m looking forward to see what this evolves into.

November 21, 2009 at 7:10 am in reply to: kernal panic

[Michael Harrington] “After the first kernal panic earlier today I ran disc warrior”

it is a absolute MUST to make sure that your version of Disk Warrior is up to date if you plan on using it with Snow Leopard.

If you use an old version of DW on a new OS it can cause more problems then you had before.

[Steven Foxx] “So does that mean that I cannot upgrade this MAC?”

You cannot just add an intel process to an old mac no.

[Steven Foxx] “I am new to MAC”

You may be new to the mac platform but you are using a old machine. No matter what platform you are using be it mac, or windows old hardware is going to limit things.

[Steven Foxx] “I have a project due in a month at school and I need to know if I should use another camera or upgrade this MAC.”

Thats your call, you could get a camera that will work with FCP or you can get a new machine that will be compatible with your camera.
