First off you do not need to add all those ** just to get attention.
Second did you try doing a search for information on what you are asking, there is a TON of info already out there.
A simple wikipedia search for mpeg brings a a TON of info.

What is the video file playing from. CD/DVD, hard drive (is so how is it connected). A little more info please.

It also may not be a bad idea to get a full time job in the field that you wish to work in after you graduate, and just freelance on the side. There are a couple of reason it may be a good idea.
-You have a steady paycheck (comes in handy paying off student loans).
-You get real life work experience in your chosen field.
-You get insurance and other benefits that can cost a LOT on your own.
-It can help you decide exactly what aspects you want to focus in.
-You can see how other business are run. Thus learning how to run one.Doing the freelancing on the side, will allow you to develop a solid business of your own, but at the same time have some solid income & benefits etc.

The problem with that method is that I don’t think mac virus software will catch a lot of those pc viruses. I had anti virus software on my mac the first year I had one and it NEVER once found a thing. My opinion of mac anti virus software is that they nothing but feel good fluff. I don’t think they do a dang thing at all.

That is essentially the same thing as a password zip file. Once the dmg is mounted the file can be copped off. For what he is trying to do it will need to be imbedded into the quicktime file itself.
I personally am not aware of any application that can do this, even if you could find one I would suspect that the application would have to be installed on any computer that the video is played on.
Personally I would look into a password protected website. However even then people can still find a way to download it.

Virus software is a wast of money on a Mac. However you will want to purchase some for the PC. Norton AV is good.
If you have a PC virus software should NEVER be considered an option.

Keep in mind that on a MacBook your camera/deck will have to share the same FW bus as your hard drives. Doing this can cause dropped frames. I would recommend at least a MacBook Pro with your media on eSATA drives connected to the express slot.

That is actually quite normal. When played back on a TV a little bit of the sides get cut off anyway so nobody will notice. If it is ment for web play back then you will need to scale the video like you said.

Keep in Mind that all firewire ports on the computer share the same firewire bus. Also when any firewire 400 device is connected to that bus everything connected via firewire drops to firewire 400 speed.
I have had MANY times then trying to lay DV video back to tape that I would get drop outs. I was caused by the firewire bus getting slightly overloaded on how much data is being sent through it at one time.
You have a MacPro so I would try adding media drives inside the computer, that will put your media drives on a completely separate bus then the camera/deck.

if you can get a good file that way then bring it use compressor, or pull it back into FCP and see if you can lay that back to tape.
